Soooooo DNF, or DNS?
Bekele only runs 93 miles per week?

I read that as starting from scratch and slowly rebuilding his body. He started the first week at 45 km a week. And at the end of the 8 weeks. He was up to 150 km a week. For the height/peak of his training, it is probably much higher.
So while everyone else is going to altitude Bekele is training BELOW sea level? OK.
It says in the article he went there for physical therapy and work on all the problems causing his injuries.
Can’t believe people are getting excited about this. Talk of him winning is laughable. At best, he’s maybe 2:08. If he goes out fast, he’ll drop at the half. Is he actually getting appearance money? Good grief.

All we can do is just wait. After Berlin we will know
He needed some 'special' treatment but he will fail nevertheless cause he's done.

if you read it, he was in Amsterdam for a couple months to get healthy/train/learn to eat/etc... but since then has been back in Ethiopia training with an elite group of marathoners

You are the only one with a brain posting here about it. Everyone else is just bitter that they could never manage 1 mile at Bekele's marathon pace where they their parents bought them their degrees from a D1,2 or 3 college(I'm probably being too generous here )

This is fanciful (bordering on farcical) but can you imagine if Bekele can truly regain long term form?
How exciting would it be if we were in store for an olympic matchup between two healthy and well trained superstars like Kipchoge and Bekele? Maybe even other races if they didn't dodge eachother?
What if...
Bekele manages to set the WR in Berlin 19 or London 20?
Bekele wins the 2020 Tokyo olympics over Eliud?
And what if pigs could fly? Can you imagine?
My guess is as good as anyone's what kind of run KB will produce but I'm enjoying imagining how preciously ironic it would be if Kenenisa Bekele managed a new legal WR at Berlin, while Kipchoge chases < 2 at Ineos.
As soon as I see him I will be able to tell if he is real or not... he has been soft his past few efforts. Only the naked eye will tell if he truly has become the Kenenisa of old. It will take one look.
Letsrun views of Bekele:
-Bekele raced like crazy back in his prime, and won a lot of races
-Bekele ran fast, often chasing WR's and getting some big ones
-Many people consider him the GOAT
-Some think he needs to also have the marathon WR to be GOAT
-Bekele ran 2:03:03 in the marathon, one which featured the fastest half split ever at the time
-Many think or are sure he is/was a big doper
My questions to the Letsrun crowd:
If Bekele was indeed a big doper back in the day do you think:
(1)he is not suited for the marathon (2:03:03 is still incredible) because he hasn't run faster ?
(2) he's not doping as much as he used to?
(3) He's not doping???
(4) is on the way out as a professional runner and his body just doesn't have any left to give?
Seems like he either:
- has a lot of pride and belief he can get the world record
- feels like he won't get caught for doping if he indeed does use EPO etc
- has a hard time hanging up the shoes and retiring
To me, for such a massively successful runner with suspicion of doping to keep running is either stupid or he never doped. It's really that simple to me. He basically could retire and it would all only be speculation, but if he is doping he could get caught and the world would pretty much dismiss his entire career as a cheater. Which seems dumb, especially if he never runs another great marathon.
Doesn't seem worth it to me unless he truly thinks he is close to being able to run 2:01 or something....
So what? Another fat marathoner. I guess it will be interesting to see the Rift Valley Clydesdales in action.
I would like the internet forums to accept the potential of this man at this upcoming event, to buy into hope, to root for the (former) GOAT, and to EXPECT . . . GREAT . . . THINGS .
I wish he would retire so I don't have to watch him stumbling around like a rundrunk old jogger

If this happens Bekele would be, in my humble opinion, the even more undisputed than he already is GOAT.
We would have to consider Bekele as one of the GOATs out of any sport, he would be in some pantheon with Tom Brady.
