Perfect conditions out there today. Warm, humid and just stopped raining. Literally perfect. Glad she took advantage of it.
I have to wonder though, is her hair longer than Jordan Hasay's?

What a great rivalry this is shaping up to be. I could see both of them going low 52/sub52 in the right race.
Maybe next season or 2021, Dalilah Muhammad may be on the back 9 of her T&F career. There will be a rivalry when Sydney McLaughlin demonstrates she can be Muhammad in Olympics, USATF &/or World Championships.
Muhammad had an incredible finish off the last curve, just blowing the others away in steps and then held form sufficiently down the stretch to get the world record. That was a statement all right. McLaughlin ran a great race and yet was almost .7 s away, and Muhammad actually ran more than a second faster than she had all season. You think that a rainy track won't make for a great 400m H but this was the second one in recent memory to go very, very fast, after Rai Benjamin's 2018 NCAA victory in 47.02 in rainy Eugene.
video of it.
She was smooth the announcers didn’t even realize she was on world record pace until she crossed the line.

That is why I love British commentators.
Those announcers would most likely have caught that.
With a performance like that you have to wonder if drugs are involved. It is not like she has been close to the record ever before.
we merged the other threads on this.

They missed Sifan Hassan's world record in the mile.
Actually, she has. Her PB coming in was 52.64. She has been fast for years. She has ran in the 52s multiple times. Wasn’t expecting it, but the record doesn’t surprise me: with how fast Syd ran last year, figured that would light a fire under Delilah.
And she ran a PB in the flat 400 a few weeks so she was clearly fit.

I meant to post this in response to the person who said she had never been close to the WR before.
Whoa.....
I had no idea she looked like this.
I know it ain't PC to comment on a woman's appearance vs her accomplishments and all but... This woman could be a MODEL. She's stunning. What a good looking 400H crew we have. And world record holder now!

Thanks
She was flirting with stepping out of lane in the homestretch.
Afterwards she looked like she just finished jogging a flat 400. Kind of unsettling, a bit.

Damn, it took a 400m hurdle world record from Dalilah Muhammad to defeat Sydney McLaughlin. McLaughlin herself ran a blazing 52.88 and Muhammad one-upped that with a 52.2 beating the former world record of 52.34 seconds set by Yuliya Pechonkina of Russia in 2003.
What a race it must have been.
You are not super bright I guess. How do you proclaim that it took a world record to beat Sydney McLaughlin when you then state that a 52.87 would have done the job? So coming within .53 seconds of the then world record would have beaten Sydney it appears.

happy, OP? Now this is officially an LRC world record thread.
if it were not about an American, it would not have gone a whole page without this coming up.
She has ran within a few tenths before, but this year was consistently in the 53 mid to 54 low range, and McLaughlin even slower. Considering both were likely to make the WC team anyhow, it should indeed be a surprise to see both of them blow the doors off this event.
What a low class athlete. I will never root for Dalilah Muhammad again.
I can't believe there isn't a lengthy separate thread regarding what occurred during the post race interview. I knew NBC would ignore it but I assumed the sharp posters here would be all over it. In all my decades of following this sport I have never seen anyone make such a low class move immediately following such a triumphant race.
Sydney McLaughlin made a very sincere comment to Lewis Johnson that, "I am so happy for her," regarding Muhammad's world record. That is very representative of Sydney's personality, for anyone who has followed her. She wants the event to advance and for someone to push and challenge her.
However, the American female hurdlers are a bitter jealous vindictive collection of bitches. This has been obvious for more than a decade. If you are not among the preferred clique then they want no part of you. Lolo Jones was the first target for the 100 crew. Now at least some of the 400 group have turned their jealous venom on Sydney McLaughlin. I sensed that was already present -- and would only grow -- but I never dreamed one of them would unleash it during a live interview on NBC.
Watch it closely. After Sydney makes the comment about, "...so happy for her," along with saying something about the same group from Rio returning to Doha, Lewis Johnson starts to briefly interview the third place finisher. However, Dalilah Muhammad obviously took immediate offense at Sydney's "so happy for her" remark, and made some type of dismissive comment to Sydney, while the interview was still underway. Sydney was shocked and said to Dalilah, "I AM so happy for you."
Dalilah followed with another smart ass comment or gesture to Sydney. That is obvious because just as the interview is concluding, Sydney says, "Oh my god," as if she can't believe how Dalilah is responding, that somehow she turned a world record into reason to launch jealous bitchery.
After the races and quick interview the 3 qualifiers always huddle and celebrate together. Following Muhammad's disgraceful display I knew there was no chance that would happen here. Sure enough, she departed away from the crowd -- and glanced back at Sydney -- while Sydney and third place finisher Ashley Spencer heading in the opposite direction...smack toward the crowd.
Guaranteed that NBC picked all of this up and knew what transpired. I was hoping they would have enough guts to comment, or even ask Lewis Johnson on air if he heard the exchange. Nope. Zilch. They want to wish it away into the cornfield.
Yeah...lots of luck.
Even prior to Muhammad's low class comment you could already tell she was obsessed with McLaughlin and all the positive attention she receives. During the interview with Lewis Johnson. Muhammad said "all the distractions" and during those words intentionally shifted her eyebrows to her right, where Sydney was standing.
I guarantee Sydney had no idea what was going on, or what would follow. She's only been on the one international team and seemed genuinely happy that it would be the same familiar group again.
I saw the incident in real time because I was looking for that type of thing. I am well aware of the low class nature of some of the American female hurdlers. They are first to praise God and first to find the gutter. It is such pathetic contrast to all the events in which the track and field competitors have genuine admiration, respect and support for each other, like decathlon, pole vault and steeplechase.
Editor's note: We have no idea what the poster is talking about. Watch the interview for yourself at the 7:00 mark, we don't see what the poster is talking about:
Blah blah blah, how much time did you waste writing that
