US marks nothing. Lagat can run a sub 4 mile when he is 45.
Not that I care about the mile, but Eamon Coghlan said it couldn't be done, and want to see him go back to Ireland devastated.
It would be nice to see Bernard Lagat race sub-4 one mile; smart money says he cannot.
I am certain that a 45 year old man training for a 2:12:xx Marathon is easier on the body than a 45 year old man training for a sub-4 one mile.
If that money's smart, back it up with some evidence. Here's some contrary: Look over the AGWR's and you may be surprised to find endurance drops faster than speed. Sprint and MD training remains easy as long as you're not a stupid overtrainer, which Lagat never was.
If these people saying he'd have gone 2:11 at Berlin are correct, he's already as close to the open marathon WR set there as 4 flat is to the mile WR, and distance was always his weak suit. I'm calling it now, and the only way he fails is if he doesn't try: he'll go sub 4 easily, just like he breezed past 3:55 when he turned 40, and won't need to try more than once or twice. You can all line up to eat your naysays then.
