Hoka will testing out some special edition shoes in this year’s WS race.
Jim Walmsley will be wearing a pair of Speedgoats with GPS guided sensors that will alert Jim to any less than ideal running terrain so he can make decisions on the fly as to his footing. There is also a special bear alert so he can run faster if his life is in danger.

One of those hiking was Ian Sharman. There’s only 3 things guaranteed in this world. Death, taxes, and an Ian Sharman Top 10 finish at Western States. The man has it dialed as far as pacing concerns. He’s never won the race nor do he have the raw speed to do it imo but that man has 9 top 10 finishes in 9 attempts here. It’s not as if he’s a slouch. He’s finished 15:XX:XX

I would usually agree but with the cold start and cooler temps there is room for other steady runners to sneak into top ten alone with fast runners going to be there combined with the fact that Ian has a groin niggle of some sort. It makes the top ten less secured for him.

"Restricted to easy hiking (and some heat training) due to a minor groin strain in the gym yesterday. Shows how luck comes into being at your best for race day, but should be ok by Sat. #seeyouinsquaw"
Seven-time (consecutive years) WS winner, Scott Jurek will be on the ground this year. Openly cheering on all runners, but secretly plotting to thwart Jim’s attempt to repeat as champion thus diminishing his glory. How will he do it. More to come, Expect Great Things from Scott....

Scott has handed out numerous Cliff Bars of his own special vegan formulation to some of the top male competitors. The special tofu blend has a wonderful caramel taste and gives one an immediate energy surge, unfortunately it has a delayed reaction causing stomach spasms after two hours. Can you say tofu stomach distress plus hurt cave hallucinations. Expect a Great Things from Scott... More to come as the day is so young.....

Brojos, next year could you get Hoka to sponsor Jamin as a special boots on the ground LRC correspondent to give us live updates. Irunfar is okay, though I think Jamin would add something special with his unique insight and worldview commentary.

A 42 year old lead the elites up a snowpack for 45 minutes? ?
It's a 15 to 16 hour race for the leaders. Who cares about the first 45 minutes.
So Camille goes out hard in the lead is now blowing up when will she drop? Place your bets on the excuse

Last reports had Camille at 5th place at mile 15.
I think she got mentally hurt when she saw the irunfar readers predictions. Almost nobody picked her for a win.
Now she needs to come up with an excuse to leave the race early.
Jim Walmsley leads the 2019 Western States 100 at Duncan Canyon (mile 24.4) in 3:34 elapsed.
3 min behind his course record and didn't front run the snow this time. Looking good, a touch smarter on the terrain.
In fifth at Duncan Canyon, mile 24.5, is Camille Herron (+17:45'). She's looking good. #WS100
Jim Walmsley leads the field to Robinson Flat (Mile 30.3) in 4:26. He’s two minutes below course record at the moment. #WS100
Covered Duncan Canyon to Robinson Flat in 52 minutes, 4 minutes faster than last year.
