This actually works! Much easier and cheaper than trying to find shoes that may or may not fit. New shoes could also make for other issues. I cut just big enough for my problem spot and the are around it will pick up the support.

I've been doing this for many years now and it is a lifesaver. It used to take me 150 miles of intense pain to wear a hole through the back of my shoe. Try it... you'll thank me later.
I meant to reply to the cutting of shoe!
I have Altra Escalante and Torin and I find the soft heel cup helps a bit. Apart from that eccentric heel drop exercises and general calf and Achilles strengthening are beginning to yield results. Can run 3 x a week. Also easy intervals (Klaas Lot’s book) are helping my running form.
I also have a Haglunds deformity and am doing most of my running in the Altra torins. The heel collar is amazing.
I wish my foot fit the Escalantes, but I’m grateful the Torins come in wide and aren’t too heavy. Really wonderful trainer.
Can letsrun have a Runners Bump contest to see who on the message boards has the biggest heel? it’d be interesting to see who has it the worst.
Bumping this up for any 2022 recommendations. Best shoe I've ever used for my Haglund's was the Nike Zoom Fly Flyknit, but I'm almost through my stockpile, and they're pretty much impossible to find now. Thinking the Zoom Fly 4 or Tempo Next% might be decent replacement, but not crazy about the stack height.
Some Skechers and New Balance models look promising, curious to hear any others' thoughts.

I have chronic Achilles tendonosis at the lower attachment point with calcium build up, but it's not as pronounced as Haglunds yet. I've been running in Nike Free 5.0s and NB Fuel Cell Rebel v2s. I think the Nike Free 5.0s also are unavailable now and I haven't looked at any of the newer models yet. The NBs are a good fit for my foot shape, and I run on pavement 5 days a week and the cushioning on them is noticeably better than anything else I have trained in.
New Balance Fresh Foam Roav v1:
Shoe comes with a convex heel that is perfect for anyone with Haglands. You want v1, as I believe they changed this feature for subsequent versions.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
