it was 100% short course
All it really indicates is that 6 months ago he could run 27:25.

1) Kipruto 26:56
2) Mekonnen 26:59
3) Wanders 27:04

Last I looked, there was one runner with a sub-27 pb in that race, and only three sub 27:20. It will be a miracle if anyone in the field goes sub 27.
Dejen Gebremeskel went 26:51 solo in Sweden a few years back, but he was already a 12:46 5000 guy. Are there any of those in this field?
Chelimo, Gebrhiwet, Kipruto, Yimer, are all great runners. Would not be surprised to see the winner break 27:00 on a good weather night if they go out with the pacers. A lot of decent 5k guys & road runners in the field as well. Don't think it'd be unreasonable to see Wander go 27-low to mid. Excited to see what Chelimo can do. He's trying the 5k/10k double this year.
Would be very surprised to see sub 27 but shouldn't be too far off.

He ran over 28 last year in Oslo on the track. However, he ran 27:25 on the road December 30, 2018, which indicates that he can run low 27 or high 26. His 5000m track best is just 13:24, his road best 13:29, neither of which indicates that he is close to 27 10k shape but this is a guy with excellent speed decay. He did improve 28 seconds in the 3k last year (8:18 to 7:50). A 27:25 road guy with 59:13 half should challenge 27 on the track. A 13:24/13:29 guy should not. I think he's on the upswing on the track. The key for him really is whether he has been doing quicker, race-specific stuff or continued to train for the half. The latter won't get it done, the former could.
Great job of arguing against your point that the guy has a shot at sub 27min
Sub 27 is doping territory, he hasn’t shown he is anywhere in that range.

59:13 half marathon isn't a sign he is dirty?
Do you not get the point that there are good arguments for both sides? If you're honest in argumentation, you describe the strongest points on all sides. Here the evidence is equivocal.

anyone know if a Diamond League can be viewed on something other than NBC Gold?
Anyone know if he’ll be wearing spikes? Or will he opt for his 59:13 shoes?
No, each PB who is listed in the IAAF charts is measured by a professional...

He seems to be more relaxed this time around than in the past going into the track season.
I really believe it's gonna be his breakthrough year. Also, the boy barely takes a week off, he's used to long seasons. Watch out for him come October and Doha

Not true for most E. Africans. Officials work as hard as they can to help them avoid detection. Now go back to HH and troll somewhere else.

Every time someone runs fast, they get accused of cheating, some people are just faster than others, People take the ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL way to literally, that is just about your free to pursue happiness, We are not carbon copies, people don't get the same results by training the same, if they did, there would be no need for races as everyone would tie.
Wanders Like everyone else deserves the presumption of innocence, Until PROVEN GUILTY in a court of law.
Anyway I hope he runs well Thursday, Always good to have more diversity in long distance track running which seems to always be won by Kenyans and Ethiopians, With the USA, Morroco, and Uganda the distant 2nd tier (Japan Marathon only) and most Countries having only 1-2 individuals who are good.

I look forward to bumping this thread when he gets caught.

Almost right on the money.

I find it surprising that people think J.W. can just pop a sub 27' - it seems people do not realize how qualitative and elite that type of time is.
Some points: Yes, J.W. is a great road runner - one of the best on the planet, but that does not necessarily translate to the track. I have seen him in many races - and the typical scenario is - bam, he goes out with the leaders, no matter the pace (i.e. 13 minutes for 5000 - which imho is way above his level, and then he slowly blows up in the latter stages...What is his best 5000? right around 13.30 right?
In any case, anything under 27.50 would impress me from Julian, and if he runs around 27.40 or under, I would think absolutely great for him.
Horses for courses, and for him, the track is nor really his course - partly mental, partly physical. There are other cases like him.
