fair enough, but ill judge the person for having platypus feet. The altra toe box is in no way the shape of my foot. It's like throwing a hot dog down a hallway. My dad with fat feet and ginormous bunions loves altras though.
Altras are not designed for bunions at all. They are super wide to the inside of the big toe, but a bit further back at the ball of the foot, they are no wider. In other words, they are wide where the toes are, but normal across the ball of the foot. If you actually have a bunion, the bunion shifts your foot towards the outside of the toebox in Altras, creating a huge empty space in the toebox to the inside of the big toe. This was a full inch wide the last time I tried on an Altra. My big toe doesn't even crowd the next toe over like some people with bad bunions, they are pretty straight. It's just the bunion sticking out.
Bunions have nothing to do with being fat. Mine probably developed from maybe 80,000-90,000 miles of running in shoes that were sometimes too tight in hindsight. I actually thought have feet widest at the ball of the foot was normal growing up, since I look at my own feet way more than I look at other people's feet. But it's obvious now that they stick out more than they used to.
