Don't get this. Since when is Rupp a second tier runner? Seriously? 2nd tier runners don't win Chicago marathons or blow the doors of everyone in Prague. Or win medals in the Olympics. He's demolished numerous 2:04 runners.

True, but I think the other poster meant "Americans besides Rupp". We've started doing that more and more because Rupp is phenomenal.

Yes they should. If it's a misunderstanding, USATF needs to clarify. If not, it needs to be changed. Either way they should assume the worst and keep the pressure on USATF to respond.

When was the last time Derrick ran fully healthy? Seems more fragile than Ritz. I think Bumbalough is in the same boat.

Sorry troll, I'm none of the above. USATF's continued silence on this matter speaks loudly and they're right to criticize.

This sucks. I would love to see this guy break through. I am a huge fan. He is witty, intelligent and a great athlete. But the "... impress your roommates with your weekly mileage" line is all you need to know. He needs a new scene, and a coach who doesn't throw him to the wolves/ teammates. He needs a coach who holds back the reins, doesn't push him over the cliff. After 5 years years he should know.

He hasn’t been healthy since his senior year in college. Way to fragile to reach marathon potential and way too slow to compete in 5/10k. Stick a fork in him.

He seemed healthy enough pacing Eliud’s 2:01

I wonder how much Derrick was running. For those curious, Scott Faubs posts all of his runs and workouts on Strava. Unless he’s holding something back from us, he barely topped 110 miles a week and hardly set foot on a track. He did go up to 24 miles on his longest run. The training really does look unspectacular...he’s basically doing similar workouts to what I did when I ran 2:22 - just faster. Have to imagine Jerry is pushing Derrick wayyyyy harder and getting worse results.

It is a great lesson for anyone really. His easy/regular runs are not too fast. His workouts are spaced out a few days apart. Nothing magic, just consistent training. And after a few consistent marathon cycles and no significant injuries he is making big breakthroughs.

Why do our top track athletes always complain about how much they get paid but they are always pulling out of races?

These athletes are dropping like flies with plantar injuries with these crazy carbon plate spring drive Nike shoes, stupid.

He is a little like Ritz, tremendous talent but extremely fragile.....not good for the marathon.
