There's a huge different in development in middle school: some go through puberty earlier than others.
For what it's worth, I ran 5:25 in 8th grade and tied with another runner for fastest in our middle school. I wouldn't say that our "training" was very much in 7th and 8th grade. I broke 6 minutes in 6th grade.
I think you missed the point. If a kid is running 450 or 445 or 430, its a good indicator of talent. Anyone running under 7 min may have potential. For boys, super fast doesnt suddenly plateau in HS most of the time. Slow often becomes fast. Potential.
