Nice thread, but didn't you call this place a cesspool last weekend, and say you're never returning?

He did, but like everyone who makes a post about leaving and never coming back. He came back.

5K 14:21 4:38 pace
10K 28:44 4:38 pace
10 miles 46:51 4:48 pace
1:01:28 = 4:43 pace

Looks like he really went for it today -- was on pace for 1:00:37 through 10k. Was he alone? Did he have pacers? Either way that's a really solid result. I just hope he makes it to the start line at Boston.
He ran strong at NYC last spring but then got hurt shortly after. I want to see him lead a crew of Americans (like Ward, Fauble), to some sub-2:10s at Boston.

I’m not sure about pacers, but he wasn’t alone. Bett Emmanuel led him by 5 seconds at 5k, 7 seconds at 10k, and 8 seconds at 10 miles.
Ritz ended up running the final 5k in 14:36 compared to 14:50 for Bett. This resulted in a a six second win.
Now, if Ritz can just run that pace for the full marathon he'll be in a good position.
Note - the results list him as Bett Emmanuel. I think it’s Emmanuel Bett though - he had the fastest time in the world at 10,000m with a 26:51 in 2012.

great news. thanks.
I am happy for Ritz, I hope he can stay healthy and make the Olympic Marathon Team next year, a tremendous talent but he is very fragile.
I was told that Hansons plan to never let Ritz train above 75% intensity or volume. They believe he can run 2:08 off of that.
my money is on him making TeamUSA, it looks like he did it in regular hyperions, I think, hard to be certain with these tiny photos but not a whole lot of other black with red shoes he could be wearing
start (with a sea of red vapors around him) and finish
Ummm.....Did he look relaxed?

1:01-mid when your coach says you're at 50% fitness is awfully good.
Idiots here have been mocking and dismissing Ritz for a long time now, but if he can stay even 2/3 healthy for the next year, he's still FAR AND AWAY our second best 'thoner.
A lot might change in that year, but at this point there's no one anywhere within earshot of Ritzie's ability.
If he gets there in one piece, ALL of the 20 or 30 other guys are gonna be running for *one* spot.
He will have just turned 37 by time the trials are to be run, and I too think if he hits the line healthy, he is clearly the #2 guy in the US. He can run 208 still. That said, it's been some time since he finished a marathon, so I'd like to see a good effort in the spring and then for him to not get injured.

That’s kinda what Hudson stated when he was working with Ritz... ; that went all out the window as soon as AlSal got his needles into him in 2009 ..what a insane 6 months he had.
Hudson got Ritz to the Olympics in the marathon. Alberto couldn’t do it. Can Hanson’s?
You guys realize Hansons aren't really coaching Ritz. It's just a sponsorship thing. At best they maybe share some ideas. Ritz live in GR and is coaching his own group. Do you really think he is coaching his own people but then being coached by someone else?
Anyone know if Ritz is doing that "Road to Gold" event in Atlanta in a few weeks on March 2nd?
Because that will be fascinating if for no other reason that despite his long career, he's somehow never raced a 15K and since that event is a weird 8.2 miles, it's the closest he'll ever get, lol, or he could go to the actual 15K champs in Jacksonville the week after on the 9th
Not just 80 vdot but at almost 37 years old is impressive AF

Absolutely, he can run 2:08 in good weather on the right course. I think I read somewhere that he is running Boston, I would not advise that because the weather there is so fickle. It could be a wasted effort if the temps are too hot or too cold or if it rains hard like last year. I would rather see him run Paris, Rotterdam or London, then not run another marathon until the Trials. But if he is in fact running Boston I hope the weather is decent this year.
Go Ritz! He is a class act and I hope he has an awesome 2019. I’m never disappointed by professional runners performances, who am I to judge their careers. I haven’t run in their shoes. I haven’t experienced their ups and downs. They are still having careers, good or bad, that this Average Joes wishes that he had.

It is amazing that 1:01:27 is a really strong half marathon time, yet your statement is also correct. Jeez... competing against guys that will run that for the first (or second) half of a full marathon.

61:27 times two is a 2:02:54 marathon pace. Let's just round it up to 2:03 marathon. Only five people ever have ran under 2:03:30 for the full marathon. A 2:08 marathon last year would put you at number 73 for top marathon times last year.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
