I do not know Gwen in anyway, never met her, never engaged over social media, but lets see if we can "see" where she is coming from?
1) Started triathlons after college, presumably with no prior training or interest.
2) Had immediate success, in fact dominated for a period of 4 or 5 years.
3) Won a gold medal in the Olympics.
4) Ran 2:41 flat at NYC off of her triathlon training. None of us know how seriously she took the race or how good the training was beforehand.
If that was your trajectory, you might also believe that with specific and dedicated training for two years, that you might be able to take that 241 in NYC down to 220 in a Berlin type situation.
Most of the information above I got from Wikipedia. I truly had never heard of her before Rio Olympics, but with her change in direction and willingness to put it out there, I have become a big fan. Her husband does a nice job on her videos too. The brothers Johnson are right when they say more runners need to be like them.
