Mo ran that with a huge positive split. Just because a bunch of people ran faster doesn’t mean they could beat him head to head.

Why is he focused on Galen Rupp when Eluid Kipchoge is the best in the world at the marathon. Is beating Galen his main focus or beating Eluid for the Gold in Tokyo?
Hmmm!!!

Simple. Because the Olympics in Tokyo will be a huge showdown. It's a basic marketing move. If you think their respective countries and sponsors don't compensate them for an Olympic Gold Medal, well...you're living in a fantasy world.
Think Sugar Ray/Hearns.

Wow, thanks for the incredible post. You're like, amazing! I like how you compared the marathon times, that was really cool man! It's like you're some guy on the inside, sharing the knowledge that only you are privy to. Thanks so much. Did they name a planet after you yet?
LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
you win!
If he is focused on Olympic Gold then he should focus on Eluid Kipchoge or Lam etc. Singling out Galen to beat sounds personal not a marketing ploy. I said that before Letsrun posted the quote of the day.

How many times are you going to post on this thread? Your writing style is a dead give away. Plus, replying to your own comment as above is just plain weird.
It seemed to me from the outside that while they had been very good friends with Rupp always behind Mo, when Rupp got close to Farah in the 10000m in London and then followed that up with that incredible 2013 indoor season with the 3:50i/8:07i, Mo got worried that Rupp would start beating him if he continued to train with him. Indeed, he wasn't training with him in Portland in the Winter of 2012-13 already, and from that point on, it did not seem as if they were training partners, though they may have trained together at times. Mo spent a lot of time training in Kenya or Ethiopia and France (or maybe Sabadell in Spain across the border) with Aden. Mo cannot allow Rupp to get one over him at any distance.

Watching Mo run the London Marathon, he has much more "bounce" in his stride than other top marathoners. He is clearly fit enought to be near kipchoge, but not efficient enough. Rupp on the other hand, is more suited for the marathon. Thusly, they are near equals in the marathon currently. Seems logical to pick an equal to learn how to beat before learning to beat kipchoge.
Elite athletes like Mo should know two years before the Olympics you don't train to beat a potential medal threat like Rupp, you train to try to beat the Gold medal favorite Kiochoge. 2 years comes and goes and with maybe 2-3 marathon for Mo before tge Olympics why not go after Kipchoge instead of his "friend" Galen Rupp. Mo wants to prove to Rupp he is better than him at the marathon as well as 5000m and 10000m.

The idea that someone thinks Bekele will be going strong in 2020 is laughable. likely it will be kipchoge, mo, rupp, karoki, and kam that will be the threats in Tokyo.
Karoki will never be a threat in the marathon at an international level. 2:07:41 debut 3rd at London, 2:08:44 4th at Fukuoka, 2:08:34 5th at London. Not in the same universe as his performances at the half.
Ha!
All of those so fast East African marathoners( using) seem to disappear at championship race time like Japanese eikiden (laughably short course) college athletes don't they?????
They are nowhere to be found.
Farah is right, go race the guys who are actually training for championship races, the big city fall time trial marathons won't get you ready for a medal.

Sorry to disappoint but nope, I'm not the same guy. Just gave me a chuckle!
I Agree. Galen does seem more suited for the marathon. Plus hes younger.

Read the comment on Letsruns front page in which Mo singled out Galen as someone he must learn to beat on the roads. , them beating you Mo is fine?
VIPAM, I was starting to develop certain respect to you but not anymore. Once you said..." What about Kenenisa and..." you blew it.
Mo already beat Kenenisa in London a few weeks ago. Next target: Rupp

I don't understand why Mo Farah is even thinking about running the marathon in Tokyo. Surely he must have better chances at the 10K, he must still be top 5 in the world, no? Last year alone there were 28 guys under 2:06:22, and they weren't all run at Dubai, they were run at Berlin, Tokyo, Amsterdam, Valencia, London, Fukuoka, Frankfurt, Seoul, Rotterdam, Paris, Eindhoven, and Chuncheon.
http://www.aims-worldrunning.org/statistics/world_fastest_times/2017.html. Surely some of them will show up fit to the Olympics?
It just doesn't seem like it's his distance. Maybe I'm wrong?
Maybe the point is just to drum up interest since he's an unknown quantity at the event?
Idiot. By your logic Rupp shouldn't have run the Rio 2016 marathon. How many under 2:11 (Rupp's qualifying time for Rio after the Trials)
Rio 2016: Rupp gets bronze. I rest my case, you are an idiot.
THIS THREAD IS ACTUAL TWO (now three) PEOPLE HAVE A CONVO. Zzzzzzzz
I think you missed the memo about his 10 miller in Bern.

You're right. He couldn't hold WR Marathon pace for 10 miles.. noted.

The truth is Bekele has become addicted to cake. He eats way too much cake. His favourite song is "Cake by the ocean."
I came back thinking the trolls might have grown up and put away their juvenile jokes but no such luck. I guess they found a female troll and now their offspring are on the boards.
East Africans not a medal threat, what is Eluid Kipchoge a pacemaker who goes the distance and finishes first? Um that equals a winner from East Africa.
