Well, seeing how it’s late March and he has nothing to peak for, he’s probably not super sharp at all right now. This was probably Merber’s best outdoor opener timewise. This was a solid race for him and if he keeps this up, he’ll be running a few seconds faster this summer.
I should have also said in my original observation, that Merber still closed in under 54 seconds, which is obviously very good.
probably just hasn't done much speed work. that bodes well for the rest of his season as well if he can stay healthy
