Apologies to Bekele. Kipchoge is still the GOAT at the Marathon.
Or perhaps he realised early in the race that a world record was not possible under the rainy conditions, so he purposely pulled back. I think he is more interested in getting the world record than having a head to head battle with Kipchoge for the win but no WR. He will run Dubai and will go for the record. That is what he cares most about. He wants to be the first man to own the 5k, 10k and marathon WR at the same time. He also hates wet conditions. I doubt he will get the WR....but never count him out!

i actually think Kipchoge ruined the race. He had the pacers go for a suicidal pace in the first 5k which in turn messed up the pacing of both Kipsang and Bekele. Had the pacers followed Kipsang's advice to go just a bit faster in the first half, we might have seen the WR already.
So, the reason KIpchoge won is because the pacers went out way too fast. CHECK! If they hadn't done that, the first half marathon would have been even faster, in turn setting the stage for a WR. DOUBLE CHECK!
How many people on this board post from some kind of group home?

What ? KB's got the second best official marathon ever and Kimetto has the best one, so...
But yes, if can stay on hist feet in Dubai next year a WR might be in store...

Why even bother answering his post? He obviously rides the short bus.

You know it's coming. He always has an excuse but this time he said he was 90% in pre-race interviews. He's 0-3 in marathons this year which is not good for his brand. It was probably a mistake to pick Berlin given the competition, should've gone for Chicago or New York or even run the Worlds.
He was coming off of injury so if he was 90% fitness here he was in even worse shape by the time World's rolled around (which he cited fitness as to why he didn't run)
He could've done Chicago like he did a few years back, but you know Berlin probably offered him TONS of money. Chicago probably spent quite a bit of money on Rupp.
He could've ran New York, but when it comes to Ethiopian Men, New York doesn't really seem to have the same prestige. Plus for a lot of Ethiopians, Dubai is in January so why would they run New York in November?
Bekele was right by running this race. I think he just simply wasn't fit enough going into it and he knew it the whole time, but he had to do what the sport wanted.
I know you said he was "0-3", maybe on winning, but his runner up in London wasn't too bad in my opinion. Dubai, I'm not sure how much foot was actually bothering him, it's hard to tell with Bekele.

Holy shit congrats on biggest fail of the month.
I'll concede that Kipchoge is marathon GOAT until Bekele breaks the WR. Kipchoge's consistency is absolutely remarkable.
That said Adole was incredible even though he ran like a complete noob 😂

I'm sick of watching him drop out. I'd rather grind out a 2:12 marathon after blowing up running 61 through halfway than drop out (not that I could do either...)
He strikes me as a bit lazy. Not bothered to put the full work in. Turns up and gives it a half bash.
Hermens has said as much previously, saying he used to be able to get into top 5k shape off three months training and that he can't expect to do the same in the marathon.
I'm going to write him off going forward - would rather watch Kip, Farah, Kamworor, Adola etc. now anyway
Well Yannis went to see him in Ethiopia about two years ago and was living on a diet of cake. I thought that perhaps he had regressed in Doha and London back to his bad old diet but he looked lean for Berlin. His stride did look a bit funny from a behind shot. I wonder whether the Vaporfly's suit him?

The biggest fail was you saying that forefoot striking was key and then evidence showing that heelstriking was just fine.

The only guarantees before this race were a Kipchoge win and a Bekele DNF. Bekely jumping into this race so late was such an obvious money grab for a hefty appearance fee - you fanbois claiming he would set a world record clearly haven't watched Bekele since Berlin last year. I said he'd drop out by mile 16, but it looks like he had to hit 30K to collect his full appearance fee.
Where is that clown Mindweak who kept predicting a KB world record?
what would be the physical benefit of grinding out a marathon in 2:12 when you can save your legs and resume training? or even 2:05 or 2:06?!Grinding out a marathon is SO hard on your body. it takes a long time to truly recover from and he knows he doesn't have many chances left. it's really hard to line it up on the day of the race.more reason why kipchope is so remarkable

Did anybody else find this "race" kind of annoying? It's thrilling to watch a world record attempt, but with 3+ awesome runners tucked in behind the pacers, there was really no strategy whatsoever. Just grind out the miles while people fall off the back.
Bekele's problem might be that he's always supposed to be running for the world record. If you're not absolutely 100+%, you're going to end up with a DNF or a lousy finish. This has to be pretty nasty on a runner's spirit - leading to self doubt and dread for race day.
The only runner who's going to have a really quality race when going out at WR pace is someone who breaks the record. For everybody else, the race will turn out to be a less-than-quality preformance because it's a really stupid way to run a marathon.
Bekele shouldn't enter London - THE GOAT will be there. Sir Mo Farah going 2:04:xx. Mark it down.
It's very evident from watching London Marathon and now Berlin, that it is the new Nike shoes that are messing with his gait. In London he had blisters but looked awkward running in those shoes. Same thing with Berlin. His usual beautiful form was off. I'm suspecting the shoes.
What a pack of petulant idiots. If Bekele had chosen Chicago you would have been criticizing him for ducking competition. He tried. The day was not his. He will probably keep trying for a few more years, and I doubt he gives a crap about his "brand". The man has enough cash and glory to last several lifetimes. I think he runs because he enjoys the endeavor, even with the disappointing moments.
Right, it must be da shoes. Desisa had the same issue, right? Ran 2:12 at Monza?

Why are the elites getting fooled into wearing these shoes that are based on pseudoscience. Bekele should know better, he has developed a natural gait that has seem him run crazy WR's at 5 and 10km and now wants to mess with that by using these gimmick ridden shoes.
He deserves the DNF's if he can't think with a bit of intelligence and independence.

Didn't he still use the Nike Streak 3?
But every time he dropped out and thought he was done, he came roaring back. Like last year's Berlin. You can't count him out yet. He dropped out probably to save himself for another day. I don't think it was a bad move.
