You can't just say it's all recruiting or scholarships. A lot of schools try and do what Syracuse does and come up short. Think of Georgetown, Nova, Providence. All east coast schools with an emphasis on distance and they're not winning NCAAs on the men's side.
Oregon is a great school with better recruits than Syracuse the last 10 years and they haven't won NCAAs since 2008 and Andy Powell is a great coach.

I'm sure my brother is one of the guys on the white board. I remember him pondering how Syracuse would even compete in the Big East. Now they're national champs. And that is different than being top 5. They came from nowhere to NCAA champs.
