Why even bother mentioning the age of an Ethiopian runner?

He disappears next year for sure
He will be there for the next 10 years. He has a determination of haile and kenenisa, always want to win. After his win the 3k in Kenya today, he stated his goal is to win gold in London. If u ask the other ethiopians they'll say Mo is this or that. They self doubted themselves and already defeated before the race but not this guy

This was a great kick. It looks like a 55 last lap in a 13:51, nothing special, but the kick didn't start until maybe 250 to go and he ran very close to 25 flat for the last 200m if I have the line right. Now, to be as good as Haile or Bekele, he'd have to be able to run close to that finish in a sub 13 race, show the range, get under 12:40, etc.
Yeah I got 25.2 for the last 200m which is very impressive.
I'm going to change my diet to Ethiopian, with lots of spicy sauce.

This talk never stop. We had Gebhrwet, Gebremeskel, Yenew and Yomiff, all looked incredibly good but as we know most of them ran their best times in their first two years of discovery. Afterward, they have become mortals like the rest of us. Give the lad 3 years and from there give an assessment.
Do you have a source for where Haile said this because if he did, I'm hopeful that Barega will compete in London, but there's a rumor saying Barega might not be selected for ETH 5k team.
Looking forward to your reply,
HUGE track fan!

Actually he did win the race.
I don't know what race you're thinking about, but he ran 12:55 for 2nd behind Edris in Lausanne DL.
It's kinda obvious these guys definitely don't look U18....plus it was a a pretty fair game at least for the Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes when it comes to "age",...so, let's ignore the age here until somehow the federation or the IAAF fixes the issue.
Nevertheless, this's indeed a very exciting race to watch!

Out of the three racing, only that Kenyan guy Zakayo looks way older than 18 and his high school classmate say he's always looked like that since they started. His story was in the media, here.
Barega, and Waithaka, the Kenyan kid that won the bronze, look like typical African 17-year-olds to me.

I was at the stadium for that u18 3K in Nairobi and he's truly a fantastic talent. The Kenyan crowd was buzzing about him. Showed great intelligence through the entire race and his kick was sensational. Earned the respect of a 60,000 strong partisan crowd. I, too, think he's the one to deliver Ethiopia from this dry long, dry spell.
This board will continue to obsess about Ingebrigtsen (who I think would have struggled to medal in Nairobi), but Salemon Barega will be the name on everyone's lips by the time Doha 2019 comes around.

What happened in w400m hurdles? The Jamaican just stumbled on the last hurdle.
What happened in the 800m? The 21 year old Kenyans lost to the 20 years old Ethiopians in Kenya?

Yeah, Cuan Walker is obsessed by age at the moment on Twitter. While I suspect they may be older then what they claim, he doesn't grasp the fact that poor people in poor places don't grow up with Nivea For Men or GARNIER ULTRALIFT in their bathrooms each morning. Did you see the w200m? The German that won looked over 18, Schippers Jr, guess who is cheating now?
Ok, some people develop faster than others. Usually, those people are the best junior athletes, so yes, your 17 year old champ will look older than 17.

Mike Woods and Nate Brannen looked like they were 12 at 17.

Why are you guys hyping up his kick?
Wasn't Edris, Gebremeskel, Alimerew, and Gebrehewit all at some point hyped up to be the next Haile or Bekele? What's so different about this kid? He still has a slower PR than all of the above and has done nothing to indicate he's the next hot shot.
Nope, this kid is different. He already won a couple cross country. He has the strength and the speed. Watched and mentored by the great Haile
You mean the World JUNIOR Cross Country Championships? I'm not sure thats a great indicator of how he well be on the senior level. Last time I checked Mo Farah didn't win the JUNIOR Olympics last year.
Look at the track record of all the Ethiopians I just described earlier + Yomif right now. They have a great run for a couple of years and that's it. They can't beat Mo and even then everyone talks about how Mo is competing in a soft era compared to that of Haile/Bekele.
Gebrehewit is the only one who is consistent (2013 Silver/ 2015 Bronze / 2016 Bronze) and look back at his races, he always runs for 2nd or 3rd. 2012 was Gebremeskels year (Oly Silver). 2013 was Alimerew's year (dominated Diamond League). 2014 was Edris's year and he's remained relevant. 2015 was Kijelcha's year and he's remained relevant. None of the last 2 can outkick Mo. Jelian (last person to beat Mo in 2011) and Imane Merga are past their prime.
I'm sorry, but look at this track record of Ethiopia's past stars. Stop hyping this guy up. His 12:55 in Rome was the only thing that has impressed me, but his age is irrelevant and he lost to one the guys above. I can't believe you brought up the World JUNIOR championships like that had any relevance against senior level competition.
Maybe he is the next Haile/Bekele, but the time to have that discussion is probably not now.

But a lot just lie about their age in order to cheat honest athletes.
It's not really about whether he is exactly the new Haile or even whether he will reach his level. The important thing is that he isn't afraid to go out at a strong pace and can kick.
He has ridiculous potential.

This Ethiopian guy looks just like Alan Webb during his high school days.
Ha ha ha ha!
I am laughing at my own dry joke.
The guy has 'eaten a lot of salt' so to speak.

I wish I were in Moi Kasarani Stadium.
Ethiopia is one lucky country.
They usually have that one athlete who towers over everyone else and never gets injured.
Haile
Bekele
Tirunesh
Ayana
Now Barega.
