Pretty sure he lost to slagowski last year, too. Odds are he'll still get top 5 at USAs.

Brodey Hasty is going places. Only a junior, has run 14:32 for 5k and 4:08 for a mile. That mile was indoors this year and he only just lost to Noah Affolder. He has the potential to break 4:00 possibly this year, definitely next. By senior year he will be in range of Rupp's record in the 5000.

Could he not develop white runners?
Do you think running an 800 the same day had anything to do with Leo's performance in the mile?

Considering they were on different days, no.

might be rather obscure or hard to find, but is there a list of best 5ks for juniors? It'd be interesting to see where Hasty falls.
Galen's 5000m record looks relatively safe to me, not because Brodey doesn't have the speed or talent but because Rupp went to Europe to run it and had more resources devoted to doing it. I'll leave it open to threat, however. If he keeps up the improving though he'll be a monster his senior year and in college. I could definitely see him taking down Cheserek's indoor 2 Mile record. It'd be interesting to see if he could challenge Ritz's 14:10.

Just to be clear, you are suggesting that a high schooler who went out with the lead pack in an elite mile with multiple pros and then kicked for the win suffers from a lack of confidence?
You did see that he went 61, 60, 61 for the first three laps, right?
I'd say he is doing just fine for confidence for now. A he develops as a runner, we can revisit that.
Spot on response by Decathlete. If Decathlete is a Decathlete he understands mid D running better than most distance runners who have posted.
This is absurd. A junior? He is just a kid, only a few years older than Grace Ping. He needs to continue with a mix of sports and focus on after school generalized play to insure his long term health and future development as a runner.
I think Drew Hunter has a few fast twitch fibers. Hard to run 1:48 in high school without them. He may be a strength guy with great endurance, but he also has some speed.

Hunter really does have great speed, however, I was just speaking relative terms. At the end of the day, speed doesn't mean anymore than an upside in terms of potential, although it almost never guarantees. Look at someone like Slagowski, he is someone I consider a successful speed oriented miler(48, 1:48, 3:59) and will only blossom in the future, whereas someone like Robby Andrews doesn't seem to be able to find that same consistency. Hunter almost always looks uncomfortable when racing and to me that means he has a low speed reserve, which in comparison to other elites at his level, would make him slow. I would guess his best 200m is probably 24 lows.
Hasty definitely has speed he ran 54 seconds for a last lap in state last year for a mile in 4:14

No just latinos. Sorry.
Ritz's 14:10 was in XC. I know you didn't necessarily state otherwise. I just wanted to clarify.
All I was saying is that he is very popular in Mexico and could help cultivate young talent.

Isn't Hasty the best kicker in HS right now? That must indicate that he has some sort of speed indeed.
Every race I see him pass people in the last 200m
actually Sam Worley kicked Hasty down with ease at NXN
ritz ran 14:10 at MIT xc
You forgot to include Cooper Teare from CA in that list who won the NBN indoor high school title over Reed Brown two weeks ago.
Alex Rogers from Texas, a college sophomore who placed second in the race, attended the same high school as Worley. They will be teammates again next year at Texas.

Yeah I just meant I was wondering if he could challenge that, as I'm fairly sure that's the HS 5k (XC) record. 14:32 as a junior is moving.

Cooper Teare's gonna do great too. I was just feeling lazy so I said "other HS studs" and meant to include people like him. It'll be interesting to see how many are going to run meets like the Dream Mile, Brooks PR and such and it'll be even more interesting to see who can pull fast times or win.
his last 50 was even more impressive. I can't see many good runners beating him if they are all together at that point.
