You are obviously a racist. "No Class ... Part of his culture...They get penalized and STILL can't control themselves..."
He is an individual. In the video, he doesn't do any taunting, barely wins, and raises his arms. Maybe he did something after. It did not look like 20.44 at all to me, however. He is a great talent, probably best in the 400m. At about 17, he's capable of mid 20 (maybe, what's his pr?) and mid 45 already. 10.81 maybe was not all out.
This has been very disappointing and I wish I hadn't started the thread.
1. I thought it was indoors
2. The 20.44 was unofficial and he looks to have run 20.8+
3. It wasn't even taunting.

What?! No way he lost that much time by letting off the gas in the last few meters. He lost a nominal amount of time. That lack of finish will catch up to him in a tight race.

It says in this article that "the time that came up on the scoreboard puts him 8th all time".
That sure wasn't a 20.44.
Also the kid looked ready to start some crazy celebrations just after crossing that line.
If he looked at the scoreboard and saw 20.44 he SHOULD have been celebrating.

The way Centro and Rupp never celebrate, right?
Rupp celebrated his last national win DURING the race ffs.
I agree, based on #2 (I didn't notice how close because I was looking for TC's "taunting") he was nearer 21.0 instead of 20.44. So maybe 20.8x without the slowdown.

I wouldn't worry too much about a "lack of finish". It's not unwise to take your foot off the gas pedal in February, especially if you're clearly ahead already.
The 10.8 thing is a joke. He already ran 10.3x as a frosh.
But can we talk about the really important thing here: Cooper opened in 45.5. the world youth record is 45.14. He opened within a half second of the World Youth Record.
Even getting Bolt's 20.13 record is not unfeasible. He has until he turns 18 to get it.

If it's in the florida rules not to celebrate or taunt, then he is rightfully DQ'd.
Not if the rules are fvcking childish

Since there isn't an official time for him, maybe it was a 20.99 and someone just saw them as 4s. More likely, is that they took advantage of his unpublished time and boasted a 20.44 as a lie.
True that, no way he was more than .1 or .2 ahead of second. Also convenient his coach's video cut off immediately after the finish and doesn't show what was supposedly the actual reason for the DQ, despite his coach's claim that he was DQed for "easing up."
Kid is very talented and well coached, clearly, these times don't happen by accident. But he seems to be lacking somebody in his life with some class to help guide him to being a better person, not just a faster one.
Hope him the best on the track and in life. But shame on the adults in his life, this DQ is on them as much as him.
Or perhaps you are a moral busybody that probably gets butthurt about touchdown dances too.
Editor's note: Great minds think a like as we started a thread 1 minute after the OP on the same topic but added in the fact he also ran a 45.45 400 that counted.
Totally ridiculous on so many levels.
1) How does a HSer run that fast as a sophomore.
2) How does he get DQd?
Here's how.
From Dyestat.
"Additionally, Cooper ran would might have gone down as an all-time sophomore record in the 200 meters when he ran 20.44 seconds. But he was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct when he raised his hands and made a 'W' with his fingers. The time that came up on the scoreboard, however, would have moved him to No. 8 on the all-time list. "

PS. Cooper is overaged and should be a junior. He was born in March of 2000.

We all notice how quiet a lot of you are when it comes to E. Africans and their age cheating (and doping). But it's OK to point it out if it's some American. Good thing Cooper is black or you'd be calling for him to be crucified.
So Mohamed "Mo" Farah can make a giant "M" and everyone on the Oregon University team, including Edward Cheserek, can make an "O," but this guy can't make a "W"?
It's high school. Say what you want about the rules, they exist for a reason and they will be enforced. Smart athletes err on the side of discretion.
Your performance is not diminished if you sprint through the tape and wait calmly in your lane until the judges release you to leave the track. THEN go find your coach and teammates and celebrate.
DQed for uniform rule guy? What did you learn from that experience?
Could be strict interpretation of archaic high school rules.
Some high school rules require exact match of uniforms on the same team, bras must be same color as top if any part become visible, no jewelry, etc.
But I still think something else occurred which resulted in a DQ that is not apparent in the video clip.
As has been mentioned, that's not a 20.44 as he would have been way ahead at the finish. That's probably no faster than 20.8
He's fast. He did nothing wrong. Opinions to the contrary represent a mix of blind authoritarianism and jealousy. He won the race, no matter what spin anyone puts on it.
The great Earl Campbell on why he simply hands ball to ref after TD - "act like you done it before." Earl was class - this clown seems like a punk.

Yes, everyone should be an emontionless robot. Yea!
Should Rupp have been DQed for his "golf swing" at trials?
