Shocking win by Vivian, maybe she pushed herself hard in the 5000m heat few days ago. Tomorrow Kenya will win the 1500m men and Javelin men....mark my words.

Runs 29:17 then can't break 14:30. Yeah right.
On the BBC, Paula joked that Ayana may have decided against breaking the WR and to do it instead in a meet in Europe in which she would get a lot of money.
Kind of makes sense.

Yipee!
Ayana ran a retarded semi and lapped some runners. That was uncalled for.
Ayana cannot afford to be a one trick pony. We've figured her out. Cheruiyot said that at a certain point, she realised that she (Ayana) wasn't moving.
Vivian is in the best shape of her life.
With all Tirunesh's success, Cheruioyot has a ten second advantage in terms of PB.
She also has the Olympics record.
We are with it.
We'll beat Jamaica in athletics (track and field).
Only the US ban beat us.
we went 1-2-4 with Cherono doing something like 14:42 or thereabout.
Ethio went 3-5-14 with the third lady well over 15.
I don't care that we don't have anyone in the men's 5k final.
This race sufficeth!
Vivian has always maintained that she had everything from the sport except the Olympics gold.
Today she nailed it!
Viva Vivian!
I know , I know, I know. I am ranting. I can't help it. I am out!
Vivian "mama allen" ran away from her competition in the Kenya trials 10,000m on a hot day in Kenya at altitude, then came back THE NEXT DAY and finished the 5,000m with a 64 second lap. She's still got speed, she's still a champion. She managed her energy better in the heats and it paid off.
Curious. Do you not root for Bernarg Lagat?

Bernard Lagat is a traitor!

Good lord it was tough to determine the clean winner in this race.
The fastest American.
Did you all notice how Ayana was sweating profusely during the race? She looked like someone who had been swimming in massage oil! Or like ice-cream melting! Everyone else in that race wasn't even as half sweating as she was. Could that be the cause of her sudden "collapse"? Her third 1K was also a little fast at 2:47 and that might have been too much for her.

The way Ayana ran the 10k and the heats, no way she was winning this.
It made no sense as to why she lapped runners in the semis.
All she needed to do was qualify but she went out to prove whatever it is that she wanted to prove.
It came to bite her.

Ayana was most definitely tired from the 10k. Her form was very jerky early on in the race, not her usual smooth style. I think her last 1600 was 4:38, so Vivian must have run close to 4:27.
All kudos to Vivian C. She's a great runner and ran a great race.

Lord Coe should be banned by Lord Coe too. Or someone else, even.

Great race, and I was glad to see Vivian win as well. Viva Vivian, and congrats to Kenya.
Wow, I was watching the women's pole vault and flicked back and Vivian began surging past her, wow. I did not see that happening.
So happy for her!
Especially after 2012 when she did not handle well the pressure of coming to the olympics as double 5k and 10k world champion and lost both tactical finals.
This time it took a WR to deny her and as impressive as ayana was vivian managed to stay with her and was only one a second over WR herself and way ahead over everybody else including dibaba's PB! She is clearly in great shape and where she used to run slow and find herself outkicked by dibaba and defar on the last laps, ayana's style forces her to run hard all the way. this has translated into her really fast times for both finals(5k Olympic record).
it would be a real shame if she is to move up to the marathon so soon as I was looking forward to more epic showdowns with ayana but can't blame her for wanting to leave on a high.

And what a run by Hellen Obiri a year after giving birth for silver.
Are there medals awarded in Kenya for giving birth?
You can't be so stupid to not understand the only reason anyone was lapped was due to them falling and tearing a ACL, so I'll just remind you, she lapped nobody that actually ran the whole time NOBODY.

Yes, Vivian is at the top and has no need to go to the marathon, unless it's for the money, or she just wants the challenge.
I knew I saw you at Kenyan trials! Thank you for fighting for us in this forum. Sometimes you need to live and train in Kenya to understand how talented some people are. All I ever hear here is too good to be true, must be age-cheating or doping. Let's recognize greatness when we see it.
