I read it. Fantastic book. If you are thinking of trying heroin read it first,
Haven't read others posts in here, but yes, I've done heroin many times. I was an addict for years, using off and on. I was completely straight-edge in HS until my senior year when I was prescribed painkillers for some viral sickness I had. Taking that first Vicodin was like a switch flicking in my brain. It's a cliche, but I was hooked from that first time. Most people who do painkillers long enough will switch to heroin eventually.
The first time I shot up a drug, my addiction was thrown into a whole new dimension. Using needles is stupidly addictive. After using them, you can't go back to any other way. I got into shooting cocaine as well, which was, for me, even more mentally addictive than shooting heroin. The rush is almost overpoweringly euphoric. But heroin is so physically addicting. The withdrawals are a nightmare. I didn't get physically addicted to opiates for years, but once you have been, it's very easy to get hooked again.
Haven't used in probably a year. Have been on Suboxone for several years now. It's very hard to come off of. Drugs definitely f-ed my life up, but they made me a more empathetic person towards others. I used to be very close-minded.
Yes, I have done heroin. I will clarify that I smoked it. When I was a teen I saw a lot of needle usage with many type of drugs. I remember vividly seeing people using with the crowd I hung out with. I made a definite decision to never hop trains or use needles as everyone who did these things would basically tell me to never try it and that it was really dangerous. Train hoppers can get killed or maimed and needle users can catch diseases.
Fast forward 5 or so years and I had a girlfriend, well I was her side dude, and she was getting into heroin. She asked me to try it and I agreed if I were to smoke it. It was a great high, not anything like being stoned off weed and nothing like being drunk. It was more of a body high with a relaxed feeling that kind of started in the stomach and went outward to the rest of the body. Almost a floating feeling. She was romanticizing over heroin use from all the musicians that have been famous for doing it.
I functioned on it fine and the come down wasn't noticeable. The next day I felt normal. I never did it again.
Actually a few years before that I remember abusing a prescribed bottle of oxycodene. I took what I was suppose to use for a week in about 3 days.
Those were the only two times I used opiates.

How does a heroin high compare to marijuana and being drunk?
Is it like cocaine where you can function? (Go to work etc). Or do you need to be alone?
If you are experienced with it, it's very easy to use it and function. I went to work at offices for years while on it. Definitely more functional than being drunk. Yes, if you do a ton you will nod out constantly, but you just need to control that while at work.
Surprisingly enough, I never liked weed much, despite my love for other drugs. My GF had a green card when we lived in CA. The last time I got really high on weed was taking too much of an edible she bought from a dispensary. What a nightmare! Freaked out for hours.
I have PTSD. While i regularly use marijuana to combat anxiety I would never touch heroin. Heroin is for junkies and this thread reads like an enabler. Not cool.

Heroin is for junkies.
I slept with a girl that would dress as Wonder Woman. Does that count as a heroin?

Yes, particularly for a dope fiend.
not tried it but thought about it

Your freedom didnt improve with that war.
I tried heroin twice. I snorted it. Honestly, I didn't like it very much. I felt pretty good for a while and then I threw up a bunch. I never found opiates to be all that pleasurable.
One guy posted about how it was like a switch flipped in his brain the first time he tried painkillers. I had the exact same experience the first time I tried marijuana. I just wanted to be high as much as possible, as often as possible from day one. If you looked at my case, you would think marijuana is far more addictive than heroin, even though I know that isn't true for most people. I later got heavily into drinking and Adderall while continuing to smoke tons of pot. I am almost four years sober.
Oh, and to the guy who said you can function on coke - sure, on a little bit. But if people do lots of coke or Adderall or meth, it's extremely obvious to anyone who knows anything about stimulants.
Don't use drugs recreationally. They deaden your natural receptors, so that you feel like crap when you are not on them and they make it damn near impossible to provide pain relief, etc. if it is ever medically necessary (drug addicts are the biggest babies in an operating room). I am old enough to have seen a lot of lives ruined by drug use, and it is definitely not worth the transitory high you get from them. Ironically heroin was originally created by doctors with the idea that by purifying opium, you would remove the addictive qualities of it. Whoops. In Colorado we have seen a boost in opiate use, as people who used to sell pot on the black market have switched over to selling other drugs.
Took a strong pill of hydrocodone/acetaminophen once. Threw out the bottle after. Scared the s**t out of me. Couldn't imagine heroin.
Heroin is for junkies.
Heroin is a dangerous drug, but you don't have to be judgmental of people who decide to use it for whatever reason.

Yes because being judgmental makes people feel superior and that could be the only good feeling they get for the entire day!!

Glad you are doing well now.
I'm curious about the logistics of drug usage.
How do people afford this stuff? Can you hold a job while being addicted? How much does it cost to be on herion for a week or month?
This thread is useless without PR's.
