Not tracking EPOs advantage in sprints
Just ask MJ. the 1996 Olys was the HGH EPO Olys. Just like coffee, it stops working as good as when you first used it.

This is plain funny. You're the troll here...
Marcel Fiasconaro - European Silver Medallist in 400m, Bronze in 4 x 400m and world-record at 800m.
- Nice!
- A missed opportunity for Wariner .... knowing that he's not going to get the call for the relay ... he should be experimenting with the 800 this summer.

Not a middle distance runner with speed.
Outside of Junatorena, no highest level 400m guy has ever been a top 800 guy too.
- David Patrick, Harald Schmid, Brandan Johnson, David Rushed
I hear a chorus of owls:
Who? Who? Who? Who?
Obviously, you are not a student of the sport
That simply isn't true.
Ever heard of Jamaican Arthur Wint?
It is true
No Juantorena wasn't the only great 400/800 runner. As I just showed.
The Italian guy Fiascanaro (sorry about the spelling!) who briefly held the 800WR in the 1970s?
"Marvelous" Mal Whitfield. Bronze medal - 400m, Gold medal - 800m 1948 Olympics

These comments always make me laugh.
They're usually from people who have no idea what it takes to be an elite in an event. They are usually from fast joggers who feel no difference in effort through the events. No understanding of what it takes. They think its all about putting the miles in.
It all has to do with the psyche. Some runners - likely Wariner - hate the sound of the bell. The tinkling that says "Go around for another lap."
There are lots of 400 m guys who have been predicted to be better 800 guys. But the reality is they never would have been. There is a big difference between 600 and 800. World class 400 guys are all world class at 600.
And there is a big difference between running one big race, and a string of heats and semis.
The talent needed to be world class at 400 m, is likely the ingredient that prevents the same at 800m. Alberto Juantorena was one of the few, and he was a tweener.
I guarantee you that Wariner tried an 800 and found it not to his liking. Or his skill set.
Wariner was never an 800 guy, and would have wasted his time trying the 800. Doesn't matter if he's white (let's be honest, if he were black this topic would be brought up much less). He was built for the 400. That was his best event, period.

No, Juantorena (44.26) has the fastest 400 of any top 800 runner ever. Everett (44.59) has the second fastest 400.
I stand corrected.

Again, not a top level 400m guy with his PR of 45.49. Two seconds behind Wariner. Never world ranked in the 400m. This was another elite 800m with very good 400m speed.

Easy for you to say. Two things: 1) going from being the best in the world to a new event where you have to start all over isn't all that easy. 2) The pain tolerance is actually different between the 400 and 800, along with the rhythm of the event and the training that goes along with it.
Again, changing from running medium to short intervals for the 200-400 is way different from the longer reps needed for the 800.
It is actually easier to transition down from the 800 to the 400, than it is to move up.
Juantorena.
Rudolph Harbig
Wint'
Mal Whitfield.
That's about it for a list of men who were elite 400m and 800m runners over the past 70 years or so.
He should of moved up 2 years ago. THe 800 window is now closed also. With the crop of good 800 guys that already have endurance would walk him in when he crashes at 650 meters.
Would he make this olympics this year in the 800 if he would of started 2 years ago......probably.
No scholarship limits anymore! (NCAA Track and Field inequality is going to get way worse, right?)
