This is insane~!! 14:50 indoors and winning by two minutes!!! With competition and outdoors she can go 14:30's this year!!!!!
How will Shalane Flanagan and Lauren Fleshmen react to this?

Respectfully, is there no chance of this race being a lap short?
Does Kim run well with competition or is she your standard front runner?
I'm following up on Mita's suggestion, also very respectfully, but another lap onto that would still be amazing and would make a lot more sense. With indoors, it can happen no matter how high the caliber of the meet. Were there any more eye-witnesses there that can honestly vouch for the lap count?
She had an indoor best of 15:30 and just ran an 8:49 last week so I don't find the time that surprising given the fact she loves to frontrun. It's believeable.
Correction: it was a 15:14.8 NCAA title pr, and you have the pictures....
5K you moron.
I was there, I have some splits that I randomly clicked....
68.0, 3.31.8 (2.23.8), 7.07.2 (3.35.5), 9.31.2 (2.24.0), 10.07.1 (35.8), 10.43.0 (35.9), 11.19.3 (36.3), 12.31.1 (71.8), 13.06.7 (35.6), 13.42.9 (35.2), 14.16.1 (34.2), 15.50.3 (34.2)
It was quite amazing.

thanks witness, a sub 15min 5000m is no mean feat indoors and I understood that it should read 14:50
That would be like el-g or KennyB showing up to a university 5k and throwing down a 1250. We'd really be going nuts then!
DAMN!! u know wut, i started a thread praising kim smith when she ran 3k inddor beating Sara Bei in NCAA 2003 or 2004 I could not remember..
And I was only to get bitching from the other posters that I know nothing about America and only know how to bat crickets.. Ive told you guys earlier.. Kim Smith is gonna big the NEXT BIG THING from the way she runs. And I only had oldguy there stood by me.
I know how a legend runs... She had a heart made from steel....
Sev.
I was also there, it was an amazing run, just a pity most of the crowd did not have any clue as to what was going on and the announcer at the meet wasn't great. It was only when she got into the last 1k that he decided to let them know what was going on.
She ran the first 1k in 2.55 and then ran the next 3'k at 3 min pace passing 2k in 5.55, 3k in 8.55 and 4k in 11.55 before closing in 2.55 for the last k.
It was a truely amazing run, the 5th fastest 5k ever indoors. wow!!
How many times were the back markers lapped?
If the slowest time in the results list was in the same race I think it would be close for eight.
Anyone know the women'd results from today?? 800m??
Anyone know where we could see some pictures of the BU race??
ANyone know ANyone?
you can also buy pictures there as well
that was in response to the question where can i view pictures of the BU meet
Kim got eliminated in the prelims of the Athens 5K after running 15:30. Her best at the time was 15:09. Although Olympic distance races are traditionally slow, her indoor 14:50 would have given her a bronze medal in 2004. The world record is 14:24, the Olympic record is 14:40, and the indoor record on a regulation-sized track is 14:47. Soon, she'll be in striking distance of all of those marks, especially the latter.

Honestly, the girl only knows how to run from the front. That is why she get beat by girls with weaker PRs like Shalane.
