Anyone know if there will be live streaming for this? Looks like a whole bunch of other hopefuls, aside from CD, going for the qualifier

article on the race. I have looked for any streaming or live updates information but have not found any. It is definitely a race to be looked at. It's suppose to be perfectly set up for the guys trying to hit the standard.
so the question is if derrick is just pacing someone to 1:04 or if he really wants the option to run the OT marathon.
He sure looks like a marathoner to me. Although probably his best shot at the team is at the 10k

This is great. I think this is gamesmanship to its finest. Jerry's and Alberto's boys don't like each other. Alberto every 4 years takes the attention away from the marathoners by not revealing what Rupp is doing. Turnabout is fair play.
I think they should 100% mandate that people tell us, at least, a month out whether they intend to do the trials or not. You're either training for a marathon or you aren't. What's the point of secrecy? It's not like the other runners are going to change their training plans.
Why should they have to tell you? Or us? (not personally, but in general).
They don't owe us anything, although sometimes we talk as though they do.
You would be taking the gamesmanship out of the equation if they did that.
If other runner not knowing if I was going to run at the trials or not gave me an edge, I would make sure they did not know.
Fam is running! Does no one care?!?!
They absolutely do owe us something. Their careers.
What would a sport be without any fans? It wouldn't being paying a living wage to train year around for sure.
This is just another reason/example of why running won't ever grow much beyond what is now. What other sport doesn't have a set schedule or announce who is going to participate beforehand?
But we always have these 'fans' who think everyone else should mind their own business and let the runners do whatever it is they want to do. It's like they don't even others to be a fan.
Is there Online Coverage?
I'd love to see Chris Derrick pull a Solinksy and beat Rupp at the marathon trials and steal the show.
They don't owe their careers to us. Sponsors pay them to run fast and endorse their products. You don't pay them a dime. Therefore, they owe you nothing and don't care about your preferences.

Agree with this.
The only events where we can reasonably expect the best "known star runners" to participate in are the trials and Worlds/the Olympics. For top marathoners at least, those events are not necessarily a goal anymore. And you can not even expect the stars to always make the World/Olympic team.
Barring injury or an unexpected trade, if you are a fan of a major sport star you can look at a schedule well in advance and reasonably plan your visit to watch them. And you know what sport and game they will likely be in.
We can not do this with star runners. Which meets will they run in? Which events will they do at those meets?

Wrong. Sponsored athletes are essentially walking billboards and advertisements. If they aren't visible to fans, then no one will see the sponsors sponsoring them. I "don't pay them a dime," but I do pay their sponsors. Therefore, if they don't represent their brand in a way that promotes it and makes me want to give the brand money, then the sponsor won't pay the athlete. They may not care about me, but they need me to pay attention to them.
"absolutely do owe us something. Their careers."
-I cannot think of a statement that described the current way of thinking in the USA more than this. Holy crap, we're headed for rough times.

Even if Derrick is planning on the Trials, why would he state his intentions until he has a qualifier?
But in the end, until you pay them directly, they're beholden only to their sponsors. The only thing sponsors owe you is the product you pay for, nothing more. Just because you enjoy something doesn't mean anyone has to care what you like.
Rupp nor Derrick will run the Marathon Trials.
There only intention is to try to make Nike relevant in the Men's Marathon. With Ritz hurt and Abdicate clean, Nike will not have a Male Olympian in the marathon. This makes it important to create stories where none exists.

Power that be: "You are mandated to confirm that you intend to run the Trials."
Athlete, one month out: "Yes, I intend to run."
Athlete, one week or a few days out: "Training hasn't worked out the way I hoped. I'm not running."
Nothing changes.

Nobody has cared since 2009

Oh, so NFL players owes nothing to the fans or the media?
Exactly! Just because you enjoy watching something and will pay to watch, it doesn't mean the people you pay have any obligation to change their behavior to satisfy you. No one cares about what you want.
Wow. Did Nike murder your family or something? That's a lot of vitriol for rampant speculation. Obviously things can change, but right now both Rupp and Derrick are planning on running the OMT. And counting either of them out from snagging a spot is pure imbecility.
