Bush tripped herself somehow before plowing into that barrier. It's not Kipp's fault Bush was down in the water pit flailing about. Kipp has to get over that barrier and through the water, too.
And I've never understood advancing a runner to the final based on a "if this runner had not (insert infraction here), I would have qualified" claim, then not DQ'ing the runner who supposedly committed the infraction. If what Kipp did is not enough to DQ her, then it's just all part of racing and Bush shouldn't be in the final.
She broke her freaking foot because the USATF, OF ALL ENTITIES, could not even put the steeple barrier at the right height. I think deserves at the very least the benefit of the doubt in a steeple fall. Jesus, you guys are all jerk. No wonder nobody fast cares about this cesspool.
What does it really hurt? The people who qualified also qualified and if she's too slow it'll be pretty obvious when the race is over. They could put me in the final and it would have the same effect. Bush works super hard and is a great athlete. This might be her last hurrah considering her bad luck and injuries over the years. Maybe after this meet she'll step away from the sport forever and you guys can rejoice.
We've got drug cheats winning the 10k at this meet yet all you guys can be upset about is the 10:17 time that was let into the finals. Pretty sure it says in the rules that the meet directors have the right to place whoever they want in any race (i.e. Goucher in the 10k)
USATF owed Nicole for their prior screw up. Now everyone's even.
She caused Kipp to fall on top of her by eating it on the barrier and then protests that Kipp impeded her. She gets rewarded for her error. SMH.
Reminds me of the middle school kids in my town who were climbing up on the roof of the school at night by pushing a dumpster next to the low end of the roof and then the parents sued the school district after one of the kids fell through a skylight on the roof and broke a few bones. They claim it was too easy to get on the roof cause the fences to that area were not barbed and the dumpster was not chained in place.

Did Nicole Bush also fall at the Hoka One One race?
It happens at 06:05 (or 05:30 on the race clock)

Hey hey woah!
Don't lump everyone here in the same boat. If Kipp didn't get in the final then, yeah she and the other's might have a say. That said good luck to Nicole Bush in the final.
And yes I care very much about what's been going down in Beaverton, and I'm sick of the NOP shills and apologists here.
"Unbelievably, everyone kept racing"
What?
Billy Nelson's comment to Kipp on that photo: "At least you didn't two foot it". The steeple attitude is alive and well.
Which women have the World Champs qualifier in the steeple? It absolutely affects the rest of the field, because Bush will probably race well in the finals and make the Worlds team (I assume she has the standard?). She also would take away prize money from someone else. T&FN has her picked to finish second.
Everything in the protest was accurate, but I don't understand why it was granted. It was no one's fault but Bush's that she fell, and Kipp falling on top of Bush was a direct result of Bush's actions, Kipp did nothing wrong.

That's pretty unfair to the other girls to be honest. Shalaya only fell because Bush ate it on the barrier. Entirely Bush's fault. Shalaya fell and finished in 9:50 and qualified, Bush finished in 10:17, it's a joke.
Kipp held Bush down in the pit, and is lucky she's still running in the final.

Kipp hit Bush's legs going into the barrier, caused her fall to be much worse, and then held her down the pit.
Good grief, and you think Kipp's not at fault????
It looks like a bunch of women have the qualifier, but Bush isn't one of them:

But if she places top 3 she would have the chance to chase the mark (if she doesn't hit it in finals). The standard is 9:44 and she ran 9:24 last year (and 9:44.68 a few weeks ago) so it seems very doable for her to get it.

The protest does not allege that Kipp hit Bush's legs causing her to fall. I watching from the water side of the barrier, so I couldn't see that, so I can't say for sure that it did not happen, but the protest says that she was knocked down while trying to get back up, and that if she had been able to get on her feet on the first try, she "as one of the top qualifiers very well may have recovered in the heat."
The ruling was that "athlete will be advanced to the finals her progress was impeded"
I can't read the signature of who signed the protest form, but I can (and will) go back over there and ask.
If she or her coach felt that Kipp caused her to fall in the first place, surely they would have put that on the protest?

The other ladies absolutely should consider protesting if that's an option. Falling in the steeple is an inherent risk of the event The last time qualifier was 10:03 and Bush ran 10:17. She wasn't even in the same ballpark and the runner who "impeded her from getting up" finished in 9:50. It's not like Shalaya hung around in the water pit holding Bush under.
It's time for USATF to stop giving Bush special treatment since she broke her foot many years ago when the barriers were set too high. I hope she doesn't make the team and is a non-factor.
I personally think it's absurd that USATF always puts people in the final.
In the steeple, hell it's obvious in any running event, if you slam on the breaks that you are going to be impeded by people behind you. That's sport.
That being said, when else have they given her special treatment?
To be honest, even though I hate the rationale, I'm happy with the decision. To lose out on your career because someone set the barrier at the wrong height is unreal. I like her story.
But no way would I have put her in the final.
So I'm like one of those people who hates the supreme court until they rule in their favor.
I don't really understand all the bellyaching.
Lest we forget she was the US champ last year.
You guys would be dumb to think she wouldn't have made the final without the fall.

Who said she wouldn't have made the final without the fall?
Nicole Bush's mishop
Seen some spectacular images of them going into the drink, and saw her go down on the webcast. But couldn't see how or why, and definitely couldn't see any post fall drama.
Pictures or video feed of pre and post crash?
