He cannot hold carrot to JIM RYUN.
Also not in balls-park RE appeal of physique. Andrews is curly-headed stumpy-boy, Ryun had SWIMMERS PHYSIQUE sculpted torso of GREEK GOD atop manly hindquarters of ANGLO-STALLION.

Hardly "back"...same old tactics. They work for American B meets, but will drastically fail internationally. Pity. Very talented, but just seems lazy.
nice work.
Why aren't they starting at the Mile Arc line? What is that arc they are starting at?
This answer is perhaps more than you asked for, but here you go: The track was designed and measured with no curb. For tracks with no curb, the line of measure is 20cm from the stripe. We added a curb this year for the benefit of folks trying to hit the WC standard (IAAF requires a curb). However, for tracks with a curb, the line of measure is 30cm from the stripe. So, when you add a curb, the track gets slightly longer - a bit more the 400m.
We worked with folks at USATF and on the IAAF technical committee, who were very gracious with their time and expertise, to find an acceptable solution: rather than re-striping and re-measuring the whole track, they allowed us to move the starting lines. Much calculating (and rechecking of calculations) later, we put in the new start lines - for the mile, up slightly from the old mile start line. So times on the track are certified for the purposes of IAAF qualifying.

This is top notch.
Cannot hold a "carrot."
Calls him a "stallion."
Not to mention the rest of this ridiculousness. A+ Ryun trolling.
Ah, this explains so much! I was wondering the same thing about the 5k start lines as well.
I did not see the race yet, so maybe unfair to pick it apart.
But from other post that saw it, it appears, he was mid pack to further back again..when you think they would try and fix that, especially in really moderately paced races.
But, hey, a win is a win, 3:57 is way better than the 4 flat in a faster race and a 4:03 by Wheating and Mac Fleet
Maybe the comp at 15 is not quite as stiff as people think.?
Centro, Leo, now Blankenship, who else is a top 8 type guy really and can boast the record to prove that?
Merber now I would think? I always thought Peter Callaghan was a next level type prospect, but he is injured too much.
MacNamara? but who could run 3:35 with any regularity, if they had to?....so anyone else could get luck and make a top 3.

Andrews last 200 was ferocious and seemed like he had more left in the tank if he was able to kick that hard
Not overly impressed!
Of course a kick is going to look ferocious against 4 minute milers. Robbie's last 400m was about average for a world class miler. That kick needs to be there off of a 3:53 pace.
Surprised no one who has seen the video has mentioned why he moved to the middle of the pack after seeming to be content upfront through moderate fractions. Seems like a few athletes bunch up around 1k and are tripped up, Andrews being one of them. He seemed content being pushed back. Not very aggressive. He ran to win, his closing speed does not seem to be an issue.
Day-um! The guy won after 18,110 years of mediocrity. Now THAT's a comeback, folks!

It will take a 1:12 mile to be competitive by that time.
expected to see some qualifying times here and we did not see many/ enjoyed the meet but was disappointed for the folks who missed the time needed
physical fitness sport talent test
On the contrary, I appreciate all the details. I was unaware of these measurement details. Apparently, there are not many tracks with curbs in our area. It would be fascinating to learn the history of this stuff.
Who is Jon Gault?Sorry.
