Didn't the meet director say he's chasing the Bekele's indoor two mile record? I believe I saw it on an article off this site.

Doubtful. And if he did say that, I still don't believe a WR attempt is on unless I hear the athlete or his coach say it.
The "Mobot" is an embarrassment for all runners out there. I can't believe he did that stupid thing at the olympics.

Anyway, Komen's 7:58 as a "WR" (actually a World Best) is about 5 seconds slow as 7:20 should project to 7:53 by most conversions.
More than 2.5 seconds slower than equivalent, per mile. Like going for, um, a 3:28 1500.
So of course Mobot targets a soft record, just like he races soft competition.
As others have pointed out, the likely record target is Kenenisa's indoor mark of 8:04 and change.
However, my larger objection is with you calling this record "soft." I'd like to point out that Haile tried on 3 separate occasions to go sub-8, and ended up running 8:01 each time. Note also that Haile's marks are the closest that anyone has come to Komen's 7:58's.
Rabbit #1's schedule is 2:02 at 800
Rabbit #2 (Paul Koech)'s schedule is 4:02 at 1 mile and 5:03 at 2k
I would safely say this is a World Record attempt
Other rabbit's schedule's are 2:09/2:10 in the women's mile, 1:53 through 800 in the Men's 15 (American Record for Centro), 35 second laps to 800 in the Women's 3k, 57.5 at 400 for the Women's 800 and 52/1:18.5 in the Men's 800.
Hope this info helps

4.02 halfway would be right on cue for wr pace but considering mo always will have something at the end it sounds too fast for me. Not going to happen. Look for 4.07.

To all the naysayers in this thread, please come back and admit how wrong you all were.
Thanks.
(I expect crickets chirping as soon as I post this.)
