I am surprised the Title IX people are for this. It will be very interesting how the attendance and tv figures work out. Now, maybe since the Oregon women's team has been better than the men's, the women will do better attendance wise. But track and field is the only sport in the NCAA where the women are treated anywhere near the equal of men. If it's separated out men/women and no one watches the women, it gets interesting.
I disagree with this. Track and field teams are very expensive. If a team has only a few throwers, pole vaulters, do you think the staff should have a throws coach for each gender? That makes no financial sense. For a program to work well given the budget constraints, you need the assistants at least some of them to work both genders.
Why don't you do it in the other sports? Because the competitions can't go on at the same time like they can in track.
