Coffee Is not necessary. Use Run Gum, it's the perfect way to jumpstart your run. I would know, I fvcked Paris Hilton.

I replaced each cup of coffee with three cigarettes. I'm now off the coffee and smoking a pack a day!

All joking aside, I do think that "coffee is the new cigarettes". As in, people use it as a crutch to get through their mundane lives/jobs. Both are easy to get addicted to and stain your teeth like none other. Coffee won't give you lung cancer, but I honestly think it should still be avoided.

Possibly for some people, but for most what you wrote is not true.
Coffee is quite healthy for most people in moderation. It pains me to say it, but the benefits Cult-Fit listed are true.
Many people have a single cup in the morning. That's not addictive nor anxiety inducing for most. I drink it because I love the taste. I like tea, I like cocoa, I like juice, but I think coffee is delicious, and better than all those. No, I ain't only drinking water the rest of my life (good coffee, brewed right).
You anti-coffee people either over indulged or have specific issues with it. For most, it's part of a healthy life. It AIN'T smoking, in any way, shape, or form. Many of the healthiest people/longest lived people (see some parts of Greece) drink lots of coffee. It is protective of the liver. Coffee kicks a$$.

The excerpted quotes are not anti coffee. At least not IMO. Coffee is abused in America, and that doesn't challenge the validity of your advocacy trexing. Your points are fine. There are indeed crazy amounts or people with yellow teeth. C'mon, do they even brush? Good lord. The typical American lifestyle does have distasteful elements with incorrect takes on things and abusive use of a lot if things. Doesn't exclude the original merit of the said products , technologies, etc

You'd be a fool to cut out coffee...

Classic American attitude. "I can't exercise moderation. It's either all in or not at all. Now I believe coffee is evil and will lobby local politicians to ban all caffeinated beverages because I can't enjoy them responsibly."
Moderation my friend. Try it sometime.
These posts come around every once in a while and everyone blames the coffee, cites all kinds of studies but don't mention anything about the main problem, their own behavior.
Pots of coffee? 4 Red Bulls? Are you stupid? You guys are like fat person whining how McDonalds made them fat instead of asking themselves why they are shoving Big Macs in their fat face.
It's your own behavior you need to examine, quit blaming the symptom.
i cut coffee out a couple months ago because i've had chronic issues falling asleep and i figured it couldn't hurt. i'm sleeping better these days and am on a much better schedule. i drink a couple of cups of decaf tea and usually a decaf coffee in the morning too. i do, however, have a bunch of caffeine before races (races only, not workouts unless it's in a gel or something) and have found the effects of that to be awesome. before it was like i was just drinking it to get to normal, now with it being once a week or less it definitely noticeably enhances performance.

"coffee is the new cigarettes" isn't anti coffee??
Coffee is a "crutch to get one through his mundane life" isn't anti-coffee?
Of course those statements are

In what sense? by whose measurement? Alcohol his abused. Prescription meds are abused. Crack is abused. Meth is abused. etc, etc, Coffee? I am sure there are some people that way overdo it, but on the average, this is not a serious "abuse" problem in this country.

I appreciate that.
Jimmy_Crackhorn wrote:There are indeed crazy amounts or people with yellow teeth. C'mon, do they even brush? Good lord.
Ok, but can you really lay that all at coffee's feet? most people I know use a toothpaste with whitener, so it's not a problem. Yes, *some* people have their teeth stained by coffee. Most people I know....no.

Ok sure, but I don't see coffee as one of these abused things (for the large majority of people). I see it as a healthful, pleasant, beverage.
thats what melatonin is for

Eight cups of coffee a day - no plans to stop or cut back.

why would you completely eliminate something from your diet that you really like and enjoy?* That's crazy.
Because there are other relevant factors.
Something that you like and enjoy might be causing harmful or unwanted side-effects.
For some people caffeine does seem to disrupt sleep, for example.
I've gotten off caffeine completely several times for up to 2 years. Didn't really notice any difference. Does seem kinda a waste to be dependent on it and spend money on it when it's really not necessary, but I like the pick-up it gives me. And the evidence is strong that it's good for you.
It doesn't affect my sleep as long as I don't have any after maybe 2 pm.
I once drank 10-12 cups a day. Cut it out for six months, cold turkey. Then went back to one cup first thing.
I sleep better. Don't get as reeved up during the day. Calmer...
Caffeine is the real gateway drug.
Caffeine stimulates the adrenal glands, giving users a regular "flight or fight" feeling. How do you think regular simulation of the adrenal glands impacts overall health?
Probably better to eat berries if you want antioxidants.
Hmm. Perhaps your coffee abuse explains why you act like such a tool all the time. Maybe give it a miss for a while and see if it helps with your temper tantrums.

ha ha....more idiocy from the name-changing coward.
Are you actually weighing on the topic (pros and cons of drinking coffee) like an adult, or just popping to take a juvenile swipe at someone who knows more than you about this topic, which apparently angers you to no end? Oh, right, the latter of course, because it's "bioman"!
A single cup of coffee a day is "coffee abuse" ?!? More proof you have no idea what you are talking as far as nutrition and health go. now run along and make some more useless posts, your speciality! (actually, it's the only "dish" you seem to know how to cook up on here!)
Hey T-Rex, don't sweat bioman. You have him nailed, he's an angry little troll who has nothing to contribute to adult discussions, and yes, he normally posts under other names, and yes he hates you (and himself) because you've continually owned on these nutrition threads in the past and his iddy biddy feelings are hurt, apparently forever. How do I know all this? Because I am the same exact way. In fact, I might even be him. But I am sorry for this sad behavior. I am trying hard to grow up this year and stop acting like a petulant toddler whose bottle was taken away. I know I can do better. Bioman? Maybe not.

Erm, I'm not angry. Seriously take a look at your behavior. You were clearly upset enough for about 30 minutes that your were compelled to post up twice with asshat comments.
Take a look at your caffeine habits people. Caffeine is a stimulant of the central nervous system. It could be affecting your behavior and you might not even realize. Just like this guy.
