Why would you need a 2-yr buildup to the Olympics? Have you been paying attention the last 20 yrs? The Olympic Champions also run well in the Worlds the year before and after. The days of the Soviet-style Olympic buildup where you are invisible for years and then emerge 3 weeks before at your Nationals and then come out to win 2 Golds is over ... and has been for 20 years.
D'Agostino is not a medal-threat, but she is a high-profile runner for America. She is the greatest runner to come out of U.S. colleges in the last 6 years. She should be "in shape" now. At least better shape then I was at age 15.
Also, even if you were right about slowly building up to a goal 2 yrs away (for anyone), why should you start out at such a low level? She has raced (and beaten) pros before, the difference now is that SHE IS ONE OF THEM.
