Steel's profile reminds of an American Olympian who also made a huge leap at 29 or 30.

Is this from the Letsrun video interview? I watched it several times trying to get to this supposed part, but couldn't find it. Anyone with a time stamp link? Etc. I really want to hear her say that

Also an accurate description of Gemma.

So....how can Gemma Steel beat Gemma Steel.
Tie goes to the runner.

Gemma Steel's 5k, 5M and 10k times have been consistent for years. That's consistent by season times, she was so poor she couldn't afford even deep tissue massage or physio so never progressed. SO she did roads races as a hobbiest completely unaware of how god she was without actual elite coaching. She lived entirely off natural talent doing this which cleaning toilets, homes and offices. She didn't even join her athletics club until 2009 into her 20's which suggests her potential was hugely missed....
Interesting. I know for fact she was recruited to run collegiately in the US, and she turned down the opportunity. She didn't exactly fly under the radar. Maybe she was better off in the long run.
I used to like the discussions on this board. Now, no matter what the topic is, the thread immediately turns to doping accusations. It's pathetic, really. I can only imagine what would have been said about Bob Kennedy when he made his breakthroughs in Europe. And Frank Shorter doubling in the 10k and marathon, winning one and 5th in the other. No question he was on everything.
pot, meet kettle, it is in NO WAY an accurate description of Gemma. Look again. Listen again.
Gemma Steel has been getting bunches of seconds and thirds in major American road races for at least two years. This Maine thing is nothing new or surprising, especially with the kenyans missing.
Thanks for the bio on Gemma Steele. She's got a new fan.
I've looked plenty. She looks no less like a prepubescent boy than does Hasay. Both look like "little girl[s]"

Yes, its from the LR interview. From memory its said somewhere between 2-3mins (I cant be bothered re-watching it to give exact time). You have to listen hard because of the accent, but it was funny.

And the annoying announcer in the background noise made it even more difficult. But she was all bubbly and just having fun, though the mascara thing was a little painful to watch. Check out her race related picts on twitter; she seems grateful and happy.
https://twitter.com/GemmaSteel4Any winner is a doper on letsrun. Yes, it is disgusting.
All NOPers are dopers.
You see how low life these posters are? And if related to a NOP athlete, the moderators on letsrun let it go. If anyone else, they immediately delete the thread. How can the owners of this site live with themselves?

You have an ironically titled screen name considering you appear to have none. Gemma Steel is 28 hasn't made big jumps for 4 or 5 years which occurred when she first joined her club. In fact this year she has run slower then the last couple which you can see straight off her profile.
That means if Shalane is supposed to be so good because she once won one global bronze in 2008 and has never won a marathon. Maybe she chocked the race or is on the down slide in her thirties. Or many Steel is better then people give her credit for and despite the claims has been consistently good but people haven't picked up on it.
Is this thread for real? Anywhere outside the US, Shalane Flanagan is seen as a bit of an also ran who had one major championship minor placing a while back in a tactical race. Hardly renders her unbeatable for the rest of her career. Gemma Steel is a well known road and cross country runner who has been in the form of her life for the past 3 years or so. She has been a consistent top placer in the World and European Cross Countries but the UK track scene is so competitive right now in women's middle distance running, with her relative lack of track background and being prone to a certain type of injury, I would say she has chosen to focus on road racing. She is really well known in the UK and Europe and has consistently been beating many top athletes over here for several years.
And remember a lot of that road racing is done on hilly roads in cold windy conditions. Not Boston.
