Talk about steepling when he runs under 8:15? There have only been three US runners in the last 12 years to break 8:15 in the steeple- Jager (8:06), Lincoln (8:08.8), and Huling (8:13.29). Bayer is 24 years old, has the NCAA creds and has had success in the 1500, 3k, and 5k. With this being his first year in the steeple, this is definitely a noteworthy performance. Great runs by Cabral and Forys as well.
Very funny to see those dismiss Bayer's time and lauding Forys'.

How so?
I can see Bayer breaking 8:10 eventually

4:01/8:24 Fory
3:53/8:26 Bayer
See the difference yet?
I am huge steeple fan.
I like new Furman Elite group and their steeplechase roster.
WOMEN: Garcia and Bush (both basically out of sport and now back big-time)
MEN: Same with Forys and Leslie.
Not quite Schumacher/Wetmore, but right behind and men and women together.

Ooooohhhhhh "see the difference yet?"....how snarky.
Bayer has barely run the steeple and is making huge drops. Forys was a superstar in high school compared to someone like Bayer, but struggled for years and is now making a comeback. There are positives to both situations. Those thinking Forys' 8:24 is so much better than Bayer's 8:25 merely based on mile PRs are too narrowminded.
Cabral offered a nice rabbiting service to both. They kindly sat on him for all 3000m before he left them in the dust the last 100. Neither is as much as sniffing that 3rd Olympic spot with Cabral around.
LESLiE
With 2 more years to get stronger and Gary working with his hurdling, Leslie will be way out there (with Jager) by 2016!

Bayer's mile PR is 3:52. Not sure where you guys are getting 3:53 from. He's also run sub 5 in the 2000. Forys is much more of a steeple specialist and it makes sense that he beat Bayer in this race. Bayer was a former miler/3k guy who took on the steeple. We all know that either of them could get a spot in 2015 for the WC...but at this point Forys is better
