Almost good enough to get seventh place again, in 13:45!

Rupp didn't win because he wasn't the best in the field. No strategy would have worked. Simple as that. Soi and Alamirew are better runners.
I kind of agree with last post
Rupp was in plenty good enough position here, just could not punch down that last 250m
The race itself was weird in that no one really went near the top of a too slow a pace to begin with
Not really sure why a few of these have looked like this recently, no one wants to get near the pacers really

Not sure about this. One consensus is that Rupp's chances of winning could increase if he would just get out fast and continue to stay with the pacers up front. The LRC commentary thought the pacers fell off pace because no one was going with them. The terrible TV coverage seemed to miss half the race so I don't know; hope to watch a replay.
If Rupp were to try and get out front from the beginning, then it will increase the battle of positioning there. Maybe Nike needs to pay the pacers, telling them (without telling the rest of the field) to take the first 300m out faster than required pace, so that it will clear the rail up-front where Rupp needs to sit thereafter.

This is where these races are being decided, up-front, early-on, being controlled by the east-africans taking position behind the pacers, and then slowing down, resetting the pace. To work to the benefit of a strength runner coming down (like Rupp, rather than the speed sit-and-kick guys), the pacers need to take the first 300-400 meters out faster than pace to let the strength guy get in behind them and sit. This has to be coordinated under-the-table, so as to not announce this strategy to the rest-of-the-field beforehand.

Sure, I can agree with that...as long as you admit that after this race, Rupp is a better runner than Ndiku, Longosiwa, Lalang, and Gebrhiwet!!
Some of you out there are thinking this reeks of poor sportsmanship, that there should be no pacers, and that if Rupp needs to front-run (like Simpson), then he ought to get out there and do it. However, someone well made the point earlier how much deeper the men's side is. Rupp does not have a contingent of fellow American runners with similar ability that can get out front early and help control a race (basically act to help get Rupp positioned on the rail on the heels of the pacers), unlike what the sit-and-kick contingent of east-africans bring to these races.
I hope he doesn't go home.
He needs to stay in Europe and acclimate to the time zone and get in a bunch of races.
This is because Rupp has zero skill and just relies on Albert Salazar buying all of his victories for him

oh yeah, rupp and his two 10k American records and his 3000m indoor American record and his 5000m indoor American record is so pathetic. All Galen does is shit on everybody with 800m to go, so boring.
Indoor records are a joke. They are only around so Americans can feel better about themselves.

Indoor records are worthless. They are only there for white people to feel better about themselves, like the Winter Olympics.

That would a grave marriage error on Rupp's part.
Yeah, no.
IF he does go home..but certainly it is not devastated. He's going home to his pregnant wife and twins which should be arriving within the next couple months. If anyone goes home it should be BEN TRUE. He spent nearly the entire race at the back of the pack and finished around 15 seconds Behind Rupp

I'd like to think indoor records matter a little bit...

Yeah, no.
Yup, major marriage blunder. Stay in Europe, fail to support the wife, and miss the birth of his first kids--a once in a lifetime event. Oops, Rupp, fail.

Try to think.
Several runners in the race are simply better at this distance than Rupp. When Rupp WINS a few diamond league (or equivalent) 5000s then one can reasonably claim that he is as good as these folks.
On any given day some folks will have bad races. Then fanboys will come out and talk about the impressive scalps that Rupp just claimed. Sounds like you are one of these fanboys.
Try to learn about he sport. Seriously, give it a try.

Salazar has brainwashed Rupp using sit-and-kick tactics for so long that Rupp is now mentally incapable of leading a race, or setting an honest pace.
Is this what some people really think?
Rupp has done everthing and more than most could think, in there against world best at 5K , and won medal at 10K?
I think folks need to step back a minute and think about how good you actually have to be to even be near it , in these races?
3:34, 3:50.x mile, 7:32 indoors, 26:44?
And folks kill him on here? get a clue. This shit ain't easy.

If Keara came to Europe the Rupps would save a lot of money on medical expenses.
