My suggestion for people who gain weight easily like me is to totally cut out eating any food that makes you hungry then sleepy.Also any food that you eat too much of.
Compensate by not counting calories.Eat as much fresh fruit and veggies as you want.
I stay completly away from breads,cakes,icecream,chocolate,potatos,etc.
For the first few months the urge to eat some of the above was very strong but after 5 months I rarely get any food cravings.
The result is an 18 lbs net weight loss but I have lost more fat than that because I have added a few lbs of muscle.
I also have way more energy and recovery quicker from workouts.
this is not a low carb diet,it is not really a diet at all it is just recognizing that alot of people reacte in an addictive way towards certain foods and those people should treat those foods like harmful addictive drugs and avoid them.This type of approach is worth a try.
