I don't believe this statistic.
1966 VW 1300cc ... in 1967 ~~ $1400
Oh, look. Another ignorant post by this idiot.

A 2014 Honda Accord (certainly not a luxury vehicle) MSRP is in the range of $22,745 - $33,480. Granted that's the MSRP, but still, you can easily get up to $29,000 for that car if you load it up.
I bought my 2005 Accord used in 2009 for about $14,000.
I bought a 2011 Honda CRV NEW for right on $20,000.
I bought a used 2006 Scion xA for $9,000.
I would not currently pay $29,000+ for a car. Still have two kids to put through college. Beyond that though, I MIGHT pay then what the equivalent would be. Just depends.
I will always pay for reliability and safety. If I can get good looks too and fun to drive, then that's just a bonus. Though, I suppose if I end up being wealthier than predicted, I could change my priorities there.
Strangely enough, I just paid $29,882.00 for a Honda Accord.
I don't have a car.
My own experience is much different. Bought a 3-year old car in 1999 for $7000, and am fortunate enough to still be driving it.
Fiance bought new for $23,000 in 2003 and is still driving it.
My brother and his wife buy new cars ($25-32k) fairly regularly.... every 3-5 years. For some reason, they don't have much money in savings or investments.

My winter beater is a $50k bimmer. I wouldn't be caught dead in some of the pieces of junk you poors are driving. My watch costs more than most of your cars.
Facts:
the majority of plant workers in Detroit car factories for Ford and GM are high school education or less. Fact, after 25 years of employment on the assembly line at any auto plant in Detroit, you can retire with over 70% pension. Fact; The amount of pensions to be paid to all these guys in their mid 40's for their remaining life is more than the current payroll at these plants.
We as car buyers have to make up for these greedy unions that give an assembly line worker over 35 $ per hour, with $1400 per week after 5 years, $75 per hour after 10 years = $3000 per week of a 40 hr week, making $156k, before age 35, with a GED.
Wonder why our American made cars cost so much?
Wonder why running shoe companies use third world countries for the location of their assembly plants?
U.S. unions were a great idea to start. Now, they are ruining this country. Major universities in our country give better health care to the maintenance workers for the university than the university professors and the doctors for the university hospitals. Fact.
I lease a $45K BMW and bought a $34K Lexus. I am a car freak though. My car payments almost equal my mortgage. No, I'm not crazy leveraged, I could pay cash but my interest rate is under 3%.
Once my lease is up, I'll most likely buy a 3-4 year old BMW.
My last 3 car purchase were higher than this average.
I have never had any govt assistance.
I help my mom with her rent and pay her phone bill.
I did vote for Obama.
I did a google search. The $29,882 figure is only for LIGHT cars. Not sure what exactly defines light. But most pick ups and SUVs are probably out. The number sounds very reasonable. If this is the statistic you are talking about that is.

The only thing worse than an adult living in their mom's basement is a mom living in her son's basement.
Is she too lazy to get a freaking job and support herself?
I would never spend anywhere near that amount on a car

Wow.
I bet the same people who can "afford" these cars are also bleeding this country dry on government assistance programs.
Okay. You has you unrelated and dishonest attack on poor people.
Now for some unrelated truth while we are on the racist tip.
A piece by Eva Illouz in tomorrow’s Haaretz:
"The idea that Jews are inherently superior to Arabs is so widespread, deep and unquestioned, that it is hardly worth my time dwelling on it here. The idea of Jewish superiority exists everywhere in Israel, but is most blatant in the territories. Like the whites in the American South, Jews view themselves as obviously more moral, superior, civilized, technologically and economically far more accomplished than the inferior Arabs…"
Saying that doesn't make it so, brother. I say you shy away from explaining yourself because you know you will get owned.Word.

I guess you're living so large that you didn't bother to learn basic grammar rules. Good for you, brother!
