Lalang 7:44 building record, Solinsky drops out halfway.
Lawi solo 7:44. All alone from the front and he looked like he was out for a Sunday stroll. Ward got passed by McGorty with about 10-20m left. They finished in 7:58 and 7:59. Solinsky DNF. He is obvously done, but that is old news.

Efraimson vs. Bates Round 2 starts in about 10 minutes. Other notables include the Oiselle team (Fleshman, Christine Babcock, Amanda Winslow, etc), Katie Knight and others. I am guessing that Bates will get Efraimson this time around. I am still curious to see what type of time Efraimson can throw down though. Lynn Bjorklund's outdoor mark of 9:07 is definitely out of reach. The NC (non-Cain) indoor high school record is 9:17.7 and she could threaten that if she is in top shape (even if she does go that fast, it will obviously not count on historical lists due to Dempsey's track being 300m).
No Bates.
I may wind up eating my words about no shot at 9:07. Efraimson right on the rabbit's heels in 2nd through an 1500m of right around 4:30. I would love to see her go 9:0X!
Efraimson 9:00!!!
Holy cow! I did not see her cross the line because my feed was choppy for a couple of seconds, but I think that Efraimson was well under 9:05. Somewhere in the 9:03 range, possibly?

WOW! 9:00.16 for Efraimson. For reference, Cain ran 9:02.10 at this meet last year and picked up the win over Moser. This is the most shocking result that I have ever seen. I know that AE was good, but I did not that she was approaching Cain's level.
Announcer just said her 9:00.16 was a new HS all conditions record.
It is indeed. Cain's 9:02.10 was the old record. It is still not quite on par with a 4:24, but I would think that it is getting very close. I would think that JK's calculations would equate 9:00.16 to approximately 4:27.mid for a mile.
What happened to Solinsky?
Great result from McGorty too. The Stanford kids are great.

Never really up front as you would expect. He was mid pack from the get go and dropped before the 5 minute mark. Not sure what happened, but he was walking around normally on the vid after dropping out so I don't think it was injury related.
There were a lot of doubters even after Alexa crushed NXN, but she is the Real Deal, younger and hungrier than Cain, with better mechanics. (Young) women's middle distance in the U.S. is going to explode in the next few years...

He wasn't representing Stanford.

not quite enough balls this time
Excuse me. The unattached freshman runners who attend Stanford, have competed for Stanford in the past, and will compete for Stanford in the future are great. Better?

I would not have considered myself a "doubter" before this. I knew that she was very good. I expected her to run something like 9:4X for 3200m outdoors which would make her the 2nd fastest ever. I did not expect her to run the equivalent to sub 9:40 indoors though. Unbelievable.
