Webb will always be a legend
Webb will always be a legend
I think the switch to tri will make him stronger and he will be BACK in 2016 !
i always appreciated webb's honesty during post race interviews. he was passionate about running and competing, and he let his emotions show whether victorious or not. his post-race interviews were refreshing, especially since we hear so many interviews where the athlete offers up nothing but idiotic platitudes or banal cliches.
good luck webb in your next endeavor.
Great run at PRE in 2001! 3:53
Later a 3:46 AR and 1:43 summer! And a few great 1500's in europe to boot
Also, Webb, Ritz and Hall together really kick started the whole high school running scene with the web sites getting big (dyestat) etc etc. back in the day!
You're the best, Alan!!! Major congrats on a splendid career, lots of sizzling times, and all your victories throughout the years! You were - and still are - an inspiration to us all! Best of luck with tri - I have a feeling you're gonna kick butt.

Great race pity he never did in in a championship that really matters
Spoken like a true manky-toothed troll from a country where Mary Cain would be one of the top men's milers.
Next stop, Olympic Tri Champion.
Good Luck, Alan!

As that has no relevance basically you agree that he never performed at championship level
How many times have you watched British chamionships maybe then you can realise how little victories at US Champs mean to anyone outside the US
Compare the career of Lagat who he beat in the video to Webb, how do you assess his career given his talent
So I suppose to a moron like you that Fernando Mamede or Ron Clarke were losers because they underperformed on the world stage?
Not everyone is built to perform in championship style events, whether physiologically or mentally. It doesn't mean that they aren't great runners and deserving of admiration.
And the reason that I haven't watched the British championships is that Andy Baddeley is the last middle d guy that you had that was any good, and he sucked compared to Webb.
Alan Webb: First, I pray that you don't ever come on these boards, so, hopefully you'll never see this. In case you do, please remember that in 20 years the juvenile trolls on here will be long forgotten, while you will still be a one-time American Record Holder (maybe still..) in the distance event in which our nation has the best history. You were always an inspiration to me, and to my high school age son, who emailed me the news of your retirement announcement accompanied only by a frowny face.
I still remember watching you break Ryun's record. It was and still is one of the most exciting things I've seen in our sport.
Good luck with the Triathlon! Enjoy being a father. illigitimi non corrundum

Comparatively speaking, yes at least for Memede. Clark is a different matter as he medalled and also had Mexico to deal with. Additionally he did not have a big kick which does not suit championships You have just said not everyone is not mentally suited to a big championships. How is that different to what I said!

Andy had a pb's of 3:34 and 1:46 so you would hardly expect him to perform medal at championships. Although, he did try to rely too much on a kick he did not possess at that level.
Webb under performed at major championships. Furthermore I really cannot understand how someone can run 3:46 then a few years later be struggling to break 4. Nobody mentions his name when they are raving about how great Al Sal is but that is a different matter
He should have performed better at major championships given his ability. Don't shoot the messenger!
great expectations, some met, some not, enjoyed the journey
geez you guys talk like the guy is dead. There is all kinds of stuff to do and be good at. That spirit carries through all endeavors!
