He mentioned in the article that these help: http://amzn.to/19D209A and clothing is key. I have double layers on of almost everything. Plus you also have to factor in the wind. When the base temp is -30 or -40, the wind can really F you up.

for everybody who's saying they've run in -30s or -40s as well, what the hell did you wear?
Not enough.

More importantly than what you wore, where do all these people live that are posting about running in -30 and -40 degree temperatures?
Winnipeg, Manitoba, often reaches temperatures in -30 and -40 in the coldest months. I refuse to run on a treadmill or indoor track for long runs.
One of the first places where the highway signs point to Alaska.

I hate to be a Debbie downer as this is an accomplishment I don't think anyone here could do...
BUT! Wim Hof ran in similar conditions (-20F compared to -36F) for a marathon in 5hrs 25mins wearing nothing but shorts. This guys appears decked out in the warmest gear he can find.
So one man runs 26.2 miles and it is a marathon race?
Sounds like a training run.
Oh and it's 70 and sunny here in San Francisco thank God.

Boris, why always Boris?
Because his wife's name is Natasha.
This guy is tougher than that. Only wearing shorts, no shirt, shoes or socks. In -14 degrees, 200 miles from the Arctic Circle, runs a half marathon on ice/snow.
Long johns, 2 pair of sweat pants, 2 pairs of shorts, 6
sweaters, 1 or 2 facemasks touques, and scarf in my pants.
2 pairs of gloves - in northern Alberta for 1 winter.
The guys that were born there wore less clothes.
Did he run it on pure hate?

No, a marathon is too long to be run on hate, you can usually only go up to 800 on pure hate. We should really be asking if he actually ran it on a track.
