I have a pair of the 3.0s. Bought them a little over a year ago.
Was that 3.0 version 4 (3v4)? With the pierced upper (little cross-shaped holes)? Those were terrible. That material doesn't flex or stretch and the piercing doesn't help at all, plus it tends to crack and split. The new version 5 (3v5) is much better with a sort of knit upper that stretches and flexes with the soles and it seems like it will hold up well too. I only have a few runs in mine but so far they're great.
YES! You know what I'm talking about. Thanks for the tip about the 3v5s. Could you comment on their toe box width as compared to the old (inferior) model?
The problem for me with the previous version wasn't so much width as depth but the extra give in the uppers in the new version completely solves that. I went up a half size from my regular size in the 3v4s and then kept that same size for the 3v5s and if anything I wish I'd gone back down to my regular size in the new ones. The soles are identical as far as I can tell.
Try the Brooks Pure Connection. I like them even more than the original Frees.

And the version I was most happy with was on the market 4-5 years ago.
Why don't you buy a bunch of them right now? You should be able to find them somewhere on the internet
skechers go run 2..despite the history of skechers, is a great shoe. i hold a pair in my hands now and they are very flexible and light, though i've never run in the frees.
as for the brooks pure series, none are as flexible as frees. they all are about 4mm drop and relatively light, but they are closer to trainers than the skechers or frees.
the brooks green silences were good but theyre tough to find now in regular sizes
I'm shocked people on here actually run in Frees. What do you all find so appealing? I'd much rather run in a fat Hoka shoe than the monstrosity of the Free.
So much so that you don't even know the name of the shoe.

Do you actually work in a running store? How do you not know that not everybody likes the exact same shoe that you like? People's feet are different. It's a simple concept.
I have a problem with my foot and the free is the only one that feels comfortable when I try it on. I am comfortable walking around with no shoes on my feet, but when I put shoes on, it hurts. The free, maybe because it is so soft, does not cause this problem. I have never tried a fat Hoka shoe.
