My rule is this: The closer you are to the level of the people who get a uniform for free, the less appropriate it becomes for you to wear it without having earned it.
An analogous example: I was once at a party where I was privileged enough to drink from Lord Stanley's Cup. I had a friend there who was a washed-up minor league hockey player who had once been considered a pretty good prospect. He refused to touch the Cup, saying it wouldn't be right.
My Rule: As long as it is not something they wore within the last 2 years (at the least, some cases can be upwards of the last 5 years), why not wear the throwback clothing. In response to this rule:

What if you are sandwiched between the pros wearing it and the guys who are nowhere near the pros wearing it?

I wouldn't run in that because I'm not on Team USA. I might buy the same kind of singlet if Nike sold it in regular colors, which is what I think they should do. They put their product on top athletes and get tons of free advertising but then the don't sell the product. That's what i don't get.

Someone explain the thinking behind this to me.
Nike is in the business of selling athletic gear. So why wouldn't it sell singlets like it supplies to the pros? I'm not even saying gear with team logos, like NOP or OTC, just their latest and greatest version of their gear? The NFL, NBA, MLB, etc. are more than happy to sell people gear just like the pros wear. Why aren't running gear suppliers? Aren't they just leaving money on the table?
Best example is bicycle jerseys...most of those guys (cyclists) don't even enter races yet they go out decked out in almost identical apparel to some pro racing team.
Granted, the bike guys might spend more money than an average runner, but what would be wrong with selling some actual decent singlets to the jogger masses (i'm always in the market for some better looking racing gear)
Another time I was in a 800m race and some idiot wore a USATF singlet. I was freaking out thinking this guy was going to destroy me in 1:4x. turned out I led the first lap at 54 and finished in 1:55 in 4th place. the guy in the USATF singlet however finished in a terrible time of 2:10. I checked the seed time and he put down a 1:54 hahahah what a joke.
54 than 61; sounds like you pace horribly
Anybody can buy USATF gear
First college race. I was scared s1tless to say the least. Got the hang of it after a bit. ;)

I'll actually try to answer your question instead of bashing! You probably won't be able to find the 2013 singlet anywhere but you should be able to find something occasionally on ebay or people sell them on tracktalk
http://www.tracktalk.net/master-buy-sell-thread-t137p540.htmlThank you, I appreciate you not being an arrogant a$$ like "youngcoach"
Anytime! Good luck with your singlet search!
As somebody who has earned this type of gear myself I am ashamed at some of the responses. I have worn singlets in world championships and other races in Europe and even traded runners in foreign countries for theirs and have gifted nearly every one of them to random friends, family or fans. I would be bummed if they felt that they could not wear them in a race or anytime they pleased because of some jealous loser.
To my knowledge, Nike doesn't sell the pro gear......best chance you have is to try and ask an athlete at seasons end.
Cheers and good luck!
Why doesn't Nike release the pro stuff from the year before when the next new stuff goes out to pros. It would be advertised all year and then people (like me) could go buy it. If you are from Nike or some other brand you should consider this.
You are an idiot. If you are lucky enough to own a pro kit singlet, why not wear it? It's made to be worn. I like to think I'm pretty fast, but I'm not going pro. But I own two pro kit singlets that are stylish and well made, so why not wear them.
I don't understand how owning a kit singlet makes you a tool. I like Nike enough to buy one of these singlets, and what I'm wearing shouldn't effect you.

you are not even close.
Wow, 5' 9" and 145#, gimme a break and you are the one calling other people slow and out of shape. 6' 1" 142# is more like it for an 800 runner.
