He certainly is not.
He sat and kicked his way through a college career, and as a pro he DNSs and and DNFs more than anyone in the sport.
Fast? Yes. Fearless. Nope.

Less than 4 years actually.

Jordan is marketable, so it's strictly business, Michael.
Ridiculous logic. Jordan could have signed with Nike right out of HS if she wanted for more money than she'll get today. She was at her highest point when she broke the HS record in the Olympic trials final and then 4th at world jrs.
Possibly. Normally I agree with you. I think in this case the Oregon connection could mean something. If Uncle Phil has appreciated her time as a Duck, and Uncle Alberto as well...well then she might make up any lost income from not signing at 18.
Alberto and Jordan's parents really get along, and that is a huge plus.
It will be interesting to see who she chooses as an agent.
It's all gone too fast. It seems like yesterday we were chanting "come to Oregon." And she did.
My guess is he sees her as a marathoner and he could be wrong. Jordan has had a very good career but she is going to be an in betweener not fast twitch enough and not slow twitch enough. However someday she will be the head coach at U of O.
--------------------------------------------------------------
This is my exact feeling too. She doesn't have the speed to run sub 15/31 nor do i see her doing sub 225. I think she more lacks the fast twitch. I think you need lots of fast twitch still to run 225.
She is basically the female version of chris derrick. Most would agree he has a future.

Not even. I see more of Luke Ped...
The "A" standard at 10 for women for Moscow is 31:45. Goucher needs the "A", so we can assume as long as the weather in Des Moines is even halfway decent, she, with Flanagan's help, will be going for that. Hasay is currently only one second off the "B" standard and twenty-one seconds off of the "A". RIGHT NOW she has a shot to make the US team. In three years, she'll have more than a shot. That alone makes her desirable to coach. Add to that her intelligence and likability, she will clearly be of great value to any group or club that signs her.
She needs to take a little vacation in Flagstaff if ya know what I mean.
Nobody is saying Hasay will be running world records and winning gold medals. HOWEVER, there is no reason not to believe based on the trajectory she is on that she could be the next Shalane/Kara/Molly Huddle type. Jordan's college PR's are nearly identical to all of those women...and she is by far the most consistent NCAA female XC runner we have seen. Do you really consider any of those "world beaters anyway". Kara and Shalane each have ONE bronze in the 10k. That's it. They are most certainly world class/incredible runners but will never be able to consistently beat the top East African women. If she goes to Alberto, improves her turnover and stays healthy like she always does...She has a fantastic shot at making a couple Olympic teams and maybe even snagging an American record. Remember, Kara didn't maker her first Olympic team until she was 30..AND she was training at altitude in Boulder under Mark Wetmore all those years before she switched to Alberto. JORDAN IS 21 YEARS OLD.
People are critical of Hasay because we as fans over hyped her high school to an enormous extent. 4 years ago, we thought 4:14 for a high school girl was the mark of a future Olympic champion. We now have a high school girl who is running the 1500 10 seconds faster than Hasay did which shows that our female HS distance record were weak in the first place.
O.K....Here's the skinny.....ah, never mind.
If he added Hasay and then Cain joined the group full time it makes me think that Salazar is signficantly growing his group. It seems like as of a couple years ago he was deliberately keeping the group small to afford more attention to each of them.

There's very little chance she'll be the next Shalane. Nearly equal PRs? Isn't Jordan almost 30 seconds off of Flanagan's collegiate 5,000 PR? And she's not "by far" the most consistent NCAA female XC runner we've ever seen. She's good, for sure, but it's not been anything unprecedented. I believe Flanagan finished in the top five on three of her four trips, including two wins.
D'Agostino is much more likely to be the next Shalane.

What you under-estimating is the Nike/Oregon connection - the Prefontaine-Bowerman stuff that is a marketing avenue as well as a nostalgia trip as well as pride in tradition. How do you - as a brand, as well as a person - keep that alive? You do it by getting a top performing high school athlete to turn down Stanford in order to go to Duck college in the hopes that she will keep the U of O shirt in the spotlight.
Jordan was a great high school runner. But if she turned pro coming out of high school, she would have had no marketing platform - she would barely be breaking into the top ten women in the US. But, at U of O, she would attract notoriety and a spotlight for both U of O and Nike products. So, it would have been counter-productive for Nike to sign her then. Now, however, with her collegiate career about to conclude, there is no longer any reason to wait.
Mary Cain appears to be a different case. She's so fast that she may be able to be spot-lighted even in open women's competition - 4:04 for 1500 is knocking on the door. She's in a different league altogether. For someone like that, it's debatable whether knocking around college ranks for 4 years makes sense, given that she may fritter away her talents running against athletes so far below her performance capabilities. Yet, if she goes to college, she would project to be the star and the story 3 seasons per year for 4 or 5 years. She would keep the U of O mythology alive and well for Nike, so, my final word on the matter is this: she will either go pro or run for U of O. No other options considered. Why? Follow the money.
Hasay ran the 4th fastest collegiate time in the 10k in her first year of doing the event.
-Her speed needs improvement which may be holding her back the most. Alberto's focus on mechanics, strength(muscular), and speed development would greatly benefit Jordan's biggest weakness.
-Her mechanics are spot on already, but I feel as if her frame needs more power. She is very light on the feet with good body posture. She has better natural mechanics than Kara, although D'Agostino has even better.
-With all this said, she could be a premier marathoner/10k runner. The market for a top American female marathoner will be huge in 5+years once Shalane/Kara are finishing up. Come up with a better prospect...

Really? They let Erdman in. No way Erdman can keep up with even Hasay.
First of all, her name is spelled "Erdmann." If you are going to be ignorant enough to talk trash about one of the nation's best distance runners, at least have the decency to spell her name properly.
Tara Erdmann has a tremendous amount of potential! While LMU may have almost perfect running weather throughout the year, they aren't exactly a distance running powerhouse. Tara finished 6th in the Olympic Trials 10,000m last year, and now that she is training full-time with the Oregon Project you can count on her placing even better in 2016!
She couldn't stand the heat in the Austin 10K, so I don't see her mentally/physically being tough enough for the long road events. She's a pristine-weather/track runner.
I don't see what Alberto could work with her on. She's had a mostly flawless/consistent high school/college career, healthy, good mechanics, and she's hardly developed (while others have surpassed her). Maybe being over-raced is her problem? Maybe he'll get her diagnosed with a few health conditions and get her on the vitamin regimen the others take?
So much noise today with all the posts I have a headache !
As its been said , she is young , showed great range , maybe over raced in her collegiate career in the attempt to score more points for the team she loves. Nothing wrong with it , she leaves the U of O as a legend in its history of great running athletes , something later in life she will appreciate what she accomplished.
Going forward ,a focus with whatever nike group she settles with will show her long term strength in longer distances. Jordan will make her mark and it should be a exciting ride to see her reach her potential.
