In ancient times, rappers served as coaches and were placed at strategic spots along the course. As the runners neared the finish, they could be heard to say, "ba puttta putttta puttta put-put-put-put ta Kick it!" Then waved their hand from side to side above their head to further motivate. As time progressed, though, runners complained of being spit sprayed as they ran past and thought the gibberish sounds and fancy jewelry were just ridiculous so coaches became more conservative and all the nonsensical sounds were dropped. All that survives today is just talk of one's kick.
