This woman sounds like a self-aggrandizing meglomaniac.
She is a great runner - but not even on the level of shalane or goucher. She has a big chip on her shoulder - and should count herself LUCKY that alberto was willing to hook her up. She was there to help the big girls.
She will never run close to her al sal level again.

Nope. She was there to do whatever it took to make the team. We know that sal and ruppie will do "whatever" .
Just curious. How many of you who have commented have listened to the interview?
I listened to about two minutes of it.
It wouldn't load for me. Is there another website that has it?

I think Mary had a little lamb.
Let's not forget that Flanagan won the bronze medal in Beijing, and in the OT broke the Hayward Field record for that event. This was the Olympic Trials, where third is as good as first, and if Kara was good enough to win over Shalane but didn't get the chance in the trials, she could do it in the big dance. She didn't.
It could very well be that Salazar gave both athletes instructions as to how to run the race--and Begley didn't do it. But for the coach to act that way toward an athlete that made the team is beyond disgusting.
This goes right along with all the drug circumstantial evidence, and it's the attitude that's the problem more than the drug suppliers and labs. Winning takes precedence over integrity, and that's how the drugs get started. There's always going to be a willing supplier if your integrity goes over to the dark side.
Guilty as charged.
The most interesting thing about this so far is that there exists an interview with Amy Begley that is longer than 35 minutes, and that there exists in this world a man named "Metta World Peace".

I really think Salazar learned his lesson from his own links to drugs and from Mary Decker's positive test. His athletes today are probably clean, but clean is kind of a relative definition: he definitely tests to make sure everything is optimal, and adjusts accordingly. If the training and the diet depresses your thyroid, he gets you on synthroid. If you maybe have a little trouble breathing sometimes, he gets you on asthma meds. Everyone is sleeping in altitude tents. It's all artificial manipulation of the human body, but his athletes aren't technically dopers because they studiously tow the line. Salazar realizes, and I'm sure a lot of top distance coaches realize, that you can be the best in the world without technically breaking the rules. That's not true at all in sprinting, because power rules supreme there. But distance running falls in a weird void where drugs are probably helpful but maybe not, and nobody really knows what the correct balance is.
Just to clarify: I'm only talking about men. All women in every event in sports can improve by increasing their testosterone levels. I wouldn't be surprised at all if elite women were taking steps to maximize T levels, and the really good women I've known all seemed naturally "manly".
She sounded pretty reasonable and consistent with my longtime impression of AlSal (great coach for his top people but elitist and plays favorites). Interesting karma that his precious Kara went on to leave him for Shu.
Amy has an ax to grind. She got dropped by Nike and now wants to point the finger and make excuses. At some point she will grow up and move on to realize her best days are behind her. Look in mirror and realize the truth.
Nike athlete Oscor P killed his girlfriend by crushing her skull in with a cricket bat. At some point grow up and realize being employed by Nike isn't the dream of everybody.

Hello from 2013, gentle visitor from 1982! 'maybe not' helpful? Are you joking? Where have you been the last thirty years?
She said in the interview that Salazar was mostly good to her and appreciated the time he spent with her and resources he gave her.
Did you even listen to the interview?
She doesn't sound very intelligent.

it has been said in no uncertain terms that she was brought on so kara would have someone to train with
The story is Alberto was supposed to tell Amy when to "go" so that she could get the standard.
He didn't really care so he just kept telling Amy and Kara to stay put.
Amy's husband kept asking Alberto if she should go, and lap after lap Alberto said no. Then finally, Amy's husband just yelled at Amy to take off because it was coming down to the wire to go to be able to hit the standard.
There's more to the story too, from what I was told, the treatment Begley talked about continued into the Olympics as there was a kind of deliberate segregation/rivalry created to try and make Kara run faster.
The point of the story is that it shows a glimpse into the culture. Don't make a mistake, this is the culture.
I can't believe Amy let that out.

Thank you for sharing these details.
That is very sad on Salazar's part if that's true.
