Rocket Randall was the most exciting qb ever to suit up for the birds. You should have seen his high jump moves as he lept over defenders who were left grabbing nothing but air. On the other side of the ball we had one of the best defenses the nfl has ever produced led by the minister of defense. It was a great era to be an eagles fan.
True. Clyde Simmons, Reggie White, Jerome Brown, Seth Joyner and Eric Allen were beasts. During the 1991-1992 season, the Eagles D led in almost every meaningful category:
Ranked #1- (least) rushing yards allowed
Ranked #1- sacks, fumble recoveries and takeaways
Ranked #1- Least pass yards allowed
Ranked #1- total defense
Unfortunately, Cunningham got hurt that season and their offense was non-existent- they went through 5 QB's. Their defense carried the Eagles to a 10-6 record, despite all their woes on offense.
much better to jump #2 than step in it. you can never get that smell off your shoes.

A talented and versatile crew. Don't forget Randall has the third longest punt in NFL history too.
I remember that windy day. Against the Giants if I remember right. 'Ole Buddy was never averse to trying quick kicks if it meant pinning the other team deep on their own side. Then out'd come his Neaderthals to force a 3 and out and a gain in field position for the O.
My brother tackled Sam open field not bad for a 5:10 / 155 lb dback vs six two / 220 lb ... 9.7 100y quite a visual

Here's that punt:

4th and 33. Lined up at their own 2 yard line.
Buddy Ryan keeps Randall in to do the punt.
The ball lands inside the Giants 40 and bounces and rolls to the 7 before Meggett picks it up.
91 yard punt.
A bit wind-aided
The father used to date Whitney Houston back when she was young and innocent (pre-drugs, pre-Bobby Brown).
At he very top levels, HJ and pointy ball are incompatible. This is not true in HS. Dennis Smith, 7'2" back in the 70s at Santa Monica HS, later top NFL safety.
Don't forget Joe Montana and Herman Moore (hj) as well as Dan Majikowski (sp) Green bay QB. Also, Cunningham sr was quite a field event man himself (jav I think) - so competing in track is in the bloodlines.
If only he had had a dependable offensive line during those years....
Unfortunately, Buddy spent all of the money on defense. Btw, Randall was never 100% the same after that vicious hit by LT halfway into his career.
