Why does he run there. Not that great of a school. Dumb in hs or what. Plenty d1 programs would give this guy money and a lot of it
He likes the character of the school. And he just ran a 1:48.04 to win the GLIAC conference championship. He's getting faster and faster, and will get even better when he hits the top-level competition. Don't take my word for it - just watch the results at DII Nationals.
I ran D2 and even I am wondering why this necessitates a thread. He may just make it to 1:46, but he hasn't yet.
I guess I am bumping it though so more publicity for your dude.
Junior college I went to had 3 freshman running that fast? All American born
lower division runners running credible D1 times are great picks to reach elite status after college with the right training partners and coaches. I'm not saying that this guy is Nick Symmonds or Will Lear, but he may be running 1:45s in three years.
Wow, that's within 1.5 seconds of the fastest division 3 indoor time last year.
It's threads like this that put the "baby" in "Baby Nationals".

Anyone like me, when they read the thread title they thought sophomore meant - sophomore in HS.
I thought Drew was female, and kind of assumed that 1:48 was her 1000 meter time. Honestly, I still wasn't particularly impressed.
I mean that is a good high school time...not so great for a college sophomore.
Yeah no love. He isn't even the fastest in D2. Last year a freshman in D2 ran 1:48 outdoors. Drew is shining as the best in the country because Berian of Adams isn't running this year.
The ohio high school state record is faster.
Yawn.
Firstly the GLIAC is crazy in the 800 compared to the rest of D2. Now in the big picture 1:48 is extremely decent but by all means you have to factor in D1. Drew is a machine, i seen him run a .47 in the 4x4. But let's be clear if he was in D1 like Penn State nothing would be said. Drew is a big fish in a small pond.

I can't believe there is no Letsrun.com home page love for Drew Windle, sophomore from Ashland University, who completely dominated the Division II field to win in 1:48.75. This kid was a 1:51.9 guy less than two years ago at the very end of his senior high school season, and has already run a faster indoor time than the 1980s great Jay Fabian who in the same year ran 1:47.3 outdoors.
A Division II, true sophomore, NCAA champion and American-born 1:48.75 indoors deserves some love.
Take note that Arroyo, the High school kid ran 1:47 this year.
Are you a retard? what kind of time is 1:48 for 1000m. If your this ****ing stupid stay off the forums.

1:48 is good period but's not going to generate a big thread unless the kid is in HS or the athlete's name is Caster Semenya.
Haha
I wonder why no mention of the D2 nats on the homepage. Quit being D1 elitist snobs BroJos. This is one situation where the old way in which you could run at D1 nats if you won D2 would make this thread more interesting. Or if this kid runs at USATF nats and beats the D1 champ. Go ASHLAND
Dear Ashland,
Y'all aint that good.
Sincerely,
STFU

"Wow that's really good for HS. I'm surprised I hadn't heard of that," was my honest reaction.

Kinda reminds me of another thread in here Rojo....Something about Lemaitre running 9.1 for 100m....remember that one? ;)
I don't have a dog in this fight but I am a coach who has worked with international level runners, college runners and high school runners. What I observed in Pueblo this last weekend was very impressive by this kid.
Windle ran a qualifying race on Friday (hot, windy, 4500 ft, about 92 degrees in the air not counting track surface temps).
On Saturday in the final under the same conditions he solo'd from the gun to the finish a 1:48.52 which altitude converted is in the 1:47's, not to mention the conditions. No idea what the guy could've done with a rabbit.
I don't know anything about the kid other then he is a sophomore, so my guess is that you will hear more about him in the next 2-3 years.
As far as the size of school he attends, etc. is makes no difference, running is running, the kid can run.
