I hope it does go mainstream. Then all those jokers will end up injured and racing will go back to the day of Shorter, et al. where there was no such things as a hobbyjogger.

Bad Wigins, I don't have the time or effort to show you how many different things you say are completely idiotic. But let me say for now, you are so wrong on every account, and you come off sounding like a really grumpy, angry person.
Jack Daniel's did the shoe weight studies back in the '80s. He says there may be a minimal amount of shoe weight that is most ideal, whether for the individual or in general. Beyond this weight the "cost" goes up because the muscles have to start absorbing more landing shock. I would think if you strengthen the muscles, you could tolerate even lighter shoes.I would like to see company's researching and talking about this more. As well intentioned as a company like ~Altra is, their shoes are heavier than other companies. The larger companies have access to lighter materials.
Basically, as shoe weight went lighter the cost also dropped some, but when the shoe weight went too light, then the cost went up because there was getting to be less midsole cushioning and the runner’s muscles had to start absorbing more landing shock and that costs more energy.

I work in running retail and when I asked reps this past fall how the minimalist shoes were faring, they said they are on a downturn.
