the beauty of flotrack has lived up its time. it was awesome that you could get on and watch everything for free. the guys are entrepreneurs and they are looking at ways to increase profit. sucks, but good for them.

waaaaah!!! everything i want - music, sports, movies - should be FREE!!!!
THIS ^^
I drop about $20 every time I go to see a new release movie and order one item from the snack bar. If I want to see a marquee sporting event on pay-per-view, the price can be much higher.
Stop whining about the fee, and realize that you are not entitled to watch every sporting event for free.
post of the week
end of thread for me at least
Maybe by charging, they plan to be able to afford better quality content. It sucks, but quite frankly they're the only organization that gives a shit. That ESPN intern? Great, get your company to broadcast more track stuff, and not on a tape delay. I'd rather pay flo $12 to see live track than pay ESPN $5 to see it on a tape delay at 2am.
Flotrack offers something no one else does. Sure it's not up to your NFL standards, but it's better than nothing, and considering no one's throwing money at them to improve their content, they have to find a way on their own to expand. Every time I watch ESPN or NBC broadcast a track event, it's two commentator's talking about how amazing Lagat is, 80% field events, 10% attractive high jump girls, and with a commercial break every possible chance. They've got big plans and are ambitious, and beggars can't be choosers ;)

I'm an intern at ESPN and we are viewed as gorging the cable customers as we get like $5 per month for ESPN.
And flotrack wants $12.50 per month. lol.'
ESPN $60 per year.
Flotrack $150.
Espn gets 5 per month per cable subscriber, even if they don't watch it at all. It's part of the basic package price, and you can't opt out of it evenif you don't watch. If they were in an hbo, or flotrack, model, where you only pay if you specifically want it, it'd be a lot more per month. The figures aren't comparable, really.
They do show how much power espn has over cable companies, though.

No, I'm pretty sure I can get sh*tty track coverage from ESPN and NBC too.

Your comparing track coverage from Flo Track to ESPN and NBC ? Other than the video quality. Flo Track has superior coverage of T&F compared to ESPN and NBC. I'll take Ryan Fenton over Carol Lewis every time. And FloTrack streams tons of meets you would never get to see anywhere else. I won't pay the subscription price though - I can wait and see it later for free. Its not like its the BBC coverage of the London Olympics - I got that for free, but I would have paid for it.
wah wah wah all of you people think you deserve the coverage without contributing anything at all. how do you help flotrack? if they want to to charge for live stuff, that's fine. they're a business. if you have a problem with that either get a job or read a book.
EVEN MORE SAD IS THAT WE CANT SEE THE LEVINS DOCUMENTARY

Carol Lewis knows who is leading a race at any given time. I can't say the same about Ryan Fenton or any of the other Flotrack guys.

Flotrack charging $0 for all of their coverage is too much. If Flotrack was something other than a fan site, they would have made an effort to hire some people who actually know something about track.
So when are we going to have a track/running channel available via cable TV?
Last night, I was watching an ALF rerun. Look, ALF kicks a lot of ass...but do I think he should be aired on some channel in prime time? No.
ALF makes me think that anything can find its place on cable.
NBC Universal should launch some kind of sub-network devoted to airing marathons, ultras, old track meets, NCAA Championships, running documentaries, etc. One can dream.

NBC/ Carol Lewis only broadcast at a few of the high profile meets - its a lot easier to know who is in the lead in those meets. I'll give Fenton and the FloTrack crew a pass if they don't know who is in the lead of the 2nd lap of the slow heat of Women's 1500m at the Dempsey Indoor. At least they are streaming it - and no one else is.
Anytime a website that once offered free content starts asking for subscription money for that same content is indicative of the business 'seeing red tape'...
Its only a matter of time before flotrack shuts down. LetsRun survives atop the running sites once again.

i'm going to lick your tears when you can't watch your golden boy galen rupp run a 3:57. letsrun survives because it has the laziest (and best) business model.
Yes. Just like how Napster survived long past iTunes.
Carol Lewis, Tom Hammond, Louis Johnson and anybody else who calls distance races only know who is leading the race because there is a spotter who does know down on the track feeding them that information via a headset. They have no clue who the athletes are for the most part.
who cares flotrack only plays crap from austin and they defend dopestrong ... they should have really had insight on that crap..
The 1%ter Fanboys (masquerading as media to sniff up Aries Merritt's poop chute) have gotten bad news this week from the PAC12 TV Mega Network in San Francisco. PAC12 TV has locked out Runnerspace, Flotrack, etc. for life. That means NO video from PAC12 venues. This is totally disasterouly bad since USC, UCLA, Stanford, and Cal are top 4 in Olympic and IAAF medal winnings, and are the top 4 athletic programs in the entire NCAA. MFing SHIT!

Ummm, last time I looked, Flotrak wasn't a non-profit organization. Did you think they were doing this for fun? Or did you think they were trust fund bitches looking to blow some of their funds?
I don't know what non profit means!
