It's a smart move. Her big weakness is a lack of basic speed.

Is the 10k really any easier? Those ladies have just as much speed. Or is Hasay doing the 10k only while in college and returning to the 5k/1500m after graduation? Seems like in any event on the pro level, you need to have mid 14:xx 5k speed to be competitive.
I'm really not sure why folks are so surprised about her change. Look, to be competitive on the world stage in the 1500 in this day of the Russian/Ethiopian kickers you better be able to run under 2 flat for the 800. And while I'm sure Hasay could get close to 2 flat, the question becomes could she handle the rounds of intense 1500's along with the physical nature of those racing shorter distances. I think not. She is a fluid, endurance type who has great mile speed.
This is a great move for her. As she "focuses" on the 10k, don't be surprised if you see her set BIG marks in the 5k. Which, in my opinion, will become her primary event as she builds strength for the longer distances.
Oh no it's the effing Monghol Hordes (Ruskies) again!

FINNALY!!! We have been waiting for this quite some time.
^^ The post above about her doubting her natural talent is BS. Some people have the footspeed for the 1500 and others have the aerobic engine for the 10k. Jordan is just not a 1500 runner. It is obvious why she has been more successful in XC than track in college.
Big question is: does she have the necessary leg speed velocity?
