The correct answer.

This is the OP. Thanks for some good suggestions. I have the Kinvara 2. It leaves my feet sore on runs longer than 7-8 miles. The Brooks Flow sounds good. It deserves another look. I would have never considered the GoRun. It looks like a gimmick, but I'll give it a try. I can get a pair pretty cheap at the Skechers (sp?) store at the mall. I'd try the Scotts, but I've never seen them in a store. I can't buy shoes without trying them on first as I have 40 years of cumulative running damage to my feet and some shoes just are too uncomfortable to wear.
For others looking for a similar shoe, I'm aware that Altra will have a new shoe out this spring with zero lift but a thicker sole... can't remember the new model name... sorry. I'm currently wearing the ON Cloudsurfers for my long runs. I'd rate them very high, but I wanted to see what others liked before buying another pair.
The pure flow isn't that wide. The first thing that popped into my mind was the altra instinct. Have you looked at Inov-8? The road x-lite 155 is a 3mm drop with a roomy toe box. Very flexible.
The NB 1010 trail shoe uses the same last as the 730 and has more cushion.
approx. 23/19 vs 16/13
The GORun 2 will be out late December and looks like an improvement - I'd wait for that.

I love my Altra Provisions. No drop and the widest toe box you will ever find.
I have a pair of On CLoudsurfers as well and bought them specifically for the width since I am coming back from foot surgery and will have some swelling for a while. I like them. Also to manage any residual excessive lateral heel strike while I recover from surgery as the little pod thinks seem to ease it.
I just got a pair of Kinvara 3's that I will be returning because they are too tight in the forefoot. I will be asking for a pair of Saucony Shadow Genesis, which is what I currently wear. Just a little wider in the toebox, sounds like it could be what you are looking for.
Another vote for the Brooks Pure Flow.
