This is completely unconfirmed by any other news outlets and I have people in NYC at Central Park saying this is not going on. Wejo pulling the ultimate troll.

0% chance that this is true....
I'm on the course and the mile markers are not marked with big signage.
Being a native New Yorker I know where they are spray painted on the ground in the park. I think the 5k splits are marked. That was all that could be done on short notice.
How is that fair to the runners that have already travelled home?
wejo can you send us some kind of proof to verify that this is really you?
Sorry no 4 miles split.
5 miles was 24:12 we think. As the post above pointed the 5ks are the only things really marked. We're working on getting spotters at the mile markers.
As for the women,
Tiki Gelana is here. Sharon Cherop and Edna Kiplagat both who could have won the World Marathon Majors and the $500,000 prize have gone home. They were understandably upset when the traditional NYC marathon was cancelled and the WMM prize awarded to Mary Keitany.
Bizunesh Deba, the local NYC resident, is here and so is Kim Smith. Smith had returned to Providence but hopped a train back down this morning. All of them are up there in the lead. It is hard to tell everything that is going on as there isn't a fixed camera feed following them.
Ryan Hall on a bike in the race? This can't be real! What's next, Rosie Ruiz FTW?
Definitely FAKE!! Kim Smith tweeted a few hours ago, she is going to Japan for the Yokohama marathon in two weeks.
Wow, can't believe that WeJo's Nic has been hacked! You had me going for a bit, but now it just seems dumb.
9.7/10.
You got me initially, but others called it before page 2, so you can't get 10/10.
After thinking about it, no way it was decided last night and you wouldn't mention ANYTHING about it "until you saw the start with your own eyes."
I feel dumb for getting sucked in.
A dark day for LRC.
I'm at the 10k mark and more and more runners are streaming into the park as the word has gotten out about this. Some of the people were just jogging doing the traditional day after NYC go to the finish and they see all the cop cars and runners go by.
Not the best promotional job but this is great.
The best part is that the course isn't even closed. Nothing like seeing elites dodge walkers, dogs on leashes, bikers, etc.
Great!

Dude, if it was not obvious with the very first post how could it not have been obvious when you read this:
"Sorry for not having more on the women's race. That's just how we work at LRC."
???
Come on. The fact that anyone took this seriously is embarrassing.
This really is me. Not sure how I can prove it.
Once they took away the media generators it was hard to update the site last night. I finally went out and bought a Wifi card for the computer.
As for other outlets not covering it, we are pretty much the only ones who cover running as a sport.
10k was 30:27 for the men. Abdi doesn't look great but all the main contenders up there.

quick poll: how many people believe this is actually happening?
none
I hope someone stole Wejo's password... otherwise, this is just pathetic on his part.
I do not believe this but I want it to be true so badly.
As for Kim Smith a lot of PR firms do the tweeting for agents. When Ryan Hall pulled out of Chicago last year we were getting emails from the PR firm about him still being in the race.
There isn't always real time communication between PR firm, agent, and athlete.
Perfect weather for fast times 40 degrees. Almost no breeze.

With the Noreaster expected later in the week I think today was a better day to do the race than next weekend.
Hardly anyone apparently cares about the pro race anyway so if no one watches it today what's the difference? May be defeatist but it is the truth.
hate to say this but the spelling is way too good for this to be from an actual brojo.
