Just looking at the title, before even reading the thread, the shoe that came to mind for me was the Pegasus 29.
When you said you like the Skylon that pretty much confirmed it.
The current Pegasus (29) is slightly higher off the ground than the Skylon, but it's very flexible, it's responsive despite how soft it is, and it only weighs about a half ounce more than the Skylon did. It's basically as close as Nike has come to the Skylon since they discontinued that shoe.
890v2
Launch (but it is going away)
Gel-Lyte (better than I expected)
As someone who had a bunch of Skylons, those would be my suggestions.
Thanks for the responses, I will check out the shoes you mentioned
Any comments about the Flyknit trainer?
I wish I would have ordered a pallet of Skylons ....
I stocked up on the Skylon and lasted through 7 years of them. Greatest shoe ever made. Seriously. So basic and so exceptional and so badly missed. That said, the NB 890v2 is as close as it gets.
Try the Nike Lunarglide 4, says its a stability shoe but I doubt anyone notices the 1 stability feature that it has. I've owned a lot of shoes, with your description, this is the shoe I would tell you to at least try on.

I have Flyknit trainers. Very narrow which I like. Light, responsive, only had them two weeks, not sure how durable they will be.
Hard to come by, got mine at flat iron Nike in NYC, white with black.
